custody of children and social services
I dont know if anyone remembers my post from about 2 weeks ago how my sil and her hsband got arrested and me and dh took in their 3 children. Well it looks like we are going to be having the children for a long time. Does anyone know what I am entitled to for them from social services? Will I be able to get food stamps?

Re: custody of children and social services
My in laws are getting custody of their niece. She had to go to court to get temporary custody. The parents had to be served a pending custody notice ( in-laws had to serve them with this notice) so they can relinquish rights. Its a bit of a long process. The baby needs emergency medical care and its still been a month since the last court date. She is trying to apply for medicaid, but not sure if they have to wait till the custody situation is determined.
Good luck!!!!!

The courts and cps are putting them with us. We did not have to fight for them. Their father is not allowed to see them until they are 18, and their mother at least 6 months, maybe even longer she is actually going to court tomorrow where she is facing 7 years. They have been with us for 2 weeks already. I guess I have to wait until I get papers from the court and cps to get anything? It has just been a real p.i.t.a because we have to drive and pick them up from school and they eat like crazy lol.

Re: custody of children and social services
I think the best idea is to call social services directly and ask them. If you are foster parents, you should get a subsidy from the state, which would help with food.

Re: custody of children and social services
it depends if the children are placed in foster care or not. Foster parents get money each month from the foster care agency to be used for taking care of children.

Re: custody of children and social services
My FIL has custody of my niece. He had to go to court and get temporary custody before he could make any medical decisions or get any services. Now that he has he gets "Child support" from my brother in law and soon to be ex-sister in law. I hope this helps.

I just wanted to clarify that having "custody" of a child and being a foster parent/having chidlren paroled to your care through family court on a child neglect case are 2 different things. Also, you cannot collect foster care funds and actually have legal "custody", although I guess from what the above poster said, you can collect from other sources.

Re: custody of children and social services
Call whomever you've been dealing with at CPS. He/she should be able to give you more information or refer you to someone who can.
Those kids are lucky to have you.
