Cut and color question
okay, I have always had red hair, but now I am starting to gray and my color is getting dull. I have never touched my color and I am so scared to have it done.
So very basic questions... can I get a cut the same day I get color?
for touch ups in the future will it just be my roots or my entire head?
I am going on a cruise in 2 weeks, should I wait till I come back? Will it be too much sun in my hair?
TIA

I would call you hair salon & ask them. They will tell you.

Re: Cut and color question
I know that red hair is a little trickier than other hair color, but as for your first question I would definitely say that you could get your hair cut the same day it is colored..
I know I always do everything in one shot (I have very dark hair, almost black, and it is lightened/colored to a medium brown .. then I get highlights.. so that is a double process right there.. AND then they cut it when its all done.. yes I am there for hours!!)
As for follow-up, I would say that they will usually do your roots first when it grows out, then blend it in with the rest of your hair so that its all 'even'.. as I said I know that red hair can tend to get brassy or fades differently so you may have to get a full application every time to keep the color fresh
ETA: I know that the sun and the water will sort of mess around with yoru color, it might get brassy , etc.. BUT I still dont see any reason to wait until after your cruise.. I always get my hair done bf a vacation, just because I have WAY too much grey to let it go too long

Re: Cut and color question
thanks Felicia. My texture scares me, it is so course and thick and frizzy. I am scared of a bad chemical reaction.

Re: Cut and color question
I had never done anything to my color (or even cut) my hair beforea couple of weeks ago. I had it cut and full highlights put in on the same day. My colorist gave me this break down....
2-3 months- come in for partial highlights
2-3 months after partial come in for half head of highlights
2-3 months after half come in for another partial
2-3 months after half come in for another full head of highlights.
Hope this helps.

Re: Cut and color question
I am doing partial highlights now to cover up my grey. I have medium brown hair and she has been putting in caramel/honey colored highlights. I just get more done each time and I know eventually she'll have to add more brown back in, but so far this has been working OK.
I do get cuts the same day, if I need one, if not I just leave with semi-wet hair.
