cute but practical diaper bags for a bag snob?
I'll admit it - I'm a bag snob. We were browsing in Buy Buy Baby yesterday and there is so much adorable baby stuff but I hated all of the diaper bags.
It doesn't need to be "designer" but simple/classic/not cheap looking would be nice... but I'd also like it to be functional for diaper bag purposes (what do you actually need in a diaper bag anyway? and what features?)
if you're a fellow bag snob, what diaper bags were you considering?

I felt the same way about diaper bags. I hated all of them at BRU and places like that. I wanted more of a diaper bag that could pass as a regular pocketbook too. I got mine at the coach outlet and love it. Its huge and has a lot of compartments and pockets. It's perfect for me because I love coach so this fit my style.

Re: cute but practical diaper bags for a bag snob?
My mom and dad are buying me my diaper bag as my shower gift (in addition to throwing my shower for me too). I didn't want them spending $1000 on a bag, but am also a bit of a bag snob too! lol I found this diaper bag from Marc Jacobs and fell in love. It comes in a varity of colors (including black). However, I am also a bit of a color lover so I went with the Pebble color. It's under $300 and got great reviews online from other moms.

Did you check out the Timi and Leslie bags at BBB? They make some cute bags. I registered for the charlie bag.

Re: cute but practical diaper bags for a bag snob?
I am a total coach fanatic and wanted a coach diaper bag but I didn't love the ones at the outlet. Then I found one from the regular store on sale at the outlet and bought it... but DH HATED it!!!! He thought it looked ridiculous because it just looked like a giant oversized purse. I didn't love it, but I was so stuck on having a coach diaper bag... but I never took the tags off.
After DD was born, someone sent me a Vera Bradley diaper bag as a present. Totally shocked to get it in the mail!
Well, DH loves it!! He thinks it's the perfect diaper bag -- looks like a baby bag, but is big and he'd even carry it!
Here's what I have in our diaper bag (DD's only 7 weeks so I'm sure it'll change):
-extra diapers in the pampers diaper bag I got when I registered -wipes in the skip-hop wipe holder -A&D ointment (small tube) -change of clothes in a ziploc bag -changing pad (came with the bag) -packets of formula for mixing -2 mini bottles of RTF formula -extra bottle inside (there are also 2 bottle pouches on the outside) -my wallet (I got a matching VB one!) -extra ziploc bags for dirty/wet clothing -an extra pacifier in a case
On the outside, I have the arm & hammer baking soda diaper disposal bags (it's a small attachable piece), a pacifier in a pacifier pod, a small thing of hand sanitizer, and a keychain with her name on it.
My bag is CRAMMED full. I use the outside pockets for extra ziploc bags, my phone and my camera when I go out.
Anyway, I'm really happy with the VB bag so far. It's also completely washable -- just toss in the machine. Score! HTH!

Re: cute but practical diaper bags for a bag snob?
thanks for the suggestions everyone. I'll look at Coach but I'm a little worried about them being heavy. Which Coach bag did you get?
I know VB is very practical but the patterns are not my style, unless they make diaper bags in solid black quilted which I don't think they do.
As a last resort I'd consider solid black lesportsac but I'm hoping to find something a little "nicer" looking...

Re: cute but practical diaper bags for a bag snob?
The coach bag I had gotten was super heavy with NOTHING in it. I loved the idea of that bag, but I just didn't like the execution.
VB does make plain black ones:
Coach used to make the most gorgeous leather baby bag that my step mom had gotten from some coworkers to use as a work bag and I LOVED hers which is why I wanted a coach one, but they don't make the beautiful plain leather ones anymore -- only signature ones. That was part of what I didn't like about them.
My best friend has a hundred diaper bags, and two of her favorites are from Kate Spade and Burberry.
Just shop around... a lot. It'll be fun. Something will eventually jump out at you. And no matter how big or small a bag you get, you will CRAM it full and think maybe you should've gotten something bigger lol.

I got a Vera Bradley diaper bag when they were having a sale. Very cute, DH is comfortable carrying it around and it has a TON of room.

Re: cute but practical diaper bags for a bag snob?
I'm the same way and I bounced around several diaper bag options. However, I decided to check out the Kate Spade outlet one day and they had a ton of great diaper bags! I wound up getting the Kate Spade Stevie diaper bag and I love it! They have the black version on the regular website and it retails for 395 but at the outlet they have more colors/options and I paid 180! Check it out!

I got a Skip Hop bag because I thought it was cute, it was reasonably priced, and because I told DH I would rather him buy me a new expensive bag for me and not an expensive baby bag!

Re: cute but practical diaper bags for a bag snob?
i feel the same way as you and am a total bag snob. typical vera bradley and petunia picklebottom bags are not my style at all. But I haven't really thought about diaper bags at all - I haven't even registered for regular stuff yet. I'm sure when I do I'll feel the same about the diaper bags in the store.

Re: cute but practical diaper bags for a bag snob?
what about these from Skip Hop: http://www.skiphop.com/product/21500.html I was considering these because I didnt want a bag that screamed Diaper Bag! I ended up with a very pink patterned VB which I now love but I REALLY like these skiphop ones too.

I have a kate spade one and I love it. I've had it now for 3.5 years and two children and it has held up perfectly and looks as good as new. It's cute and functional. I bought it in the Kate Spade store. I didn't know BBB carried them but they def. didn't when i bought mine.
