Re: Cutting Nails

We distract them with their favorite show. DS is used to it now, so he doesn't really mind. BIL used to cut his DD's nails while she was sleeping. He nipped her once and she freaked out because daddy was doing things to her while she was sleeping. Took her a while to trust her dad again at bed time.... Chat Icon

Re: Cutting Nails

we have neevr actually cut them...we file dd's nails...its easier and less chance of cutting them! (our ped told us to do it when she was little....he said there's less chance of bleeding from cutting too close or getting the skin by accident since the nails on babies are sooo tiny!)

Re: Cutting Nails

We used to do it while she was sleeping. Now we give her the toothbrush so she practices brushing her teeth with one hand while we do the other or i give her the brush to play with for distraction.

I do it right after he comes out of a bath - they are nice and soft and easy to cut.

I do it while he is distracted watching tv or something. I sit him on my lap facing away from me, and that way I can hold his had well, and pull back the skin some underneath. I hope that helps.

I do this too. I can never file them well enough and just try to clip them as best as possible! Sitting her on me facing away seems to get the best results. If dd napped better, I'd try it while asleep, but she only catnaps, so I haven't really had much chance lol

Good luck!

Re: Cutting Nails

I have to do it every week or she scratches herself. I put her on the couch in between my legs and put on baby einstein. She gets so entranced by the video that she barely notices what I'm doing and stops fidgeting. It works like a charm. I'm not sure how people do it while they're sleeping w/o waking them. I was never sure how to do that.

Re: Cutting Nails

I make a BIG thing of it and explain every detail. He ends up watching every move I make and is very interested in the process.
(This should last another week or so, then I'll have to figure out a new plan. Chat Icon )

ETA: This kind works the best for me. I feel like I have so much more control.

I do it while I am changing him before bed. He is slightly out of it and doesn't realize what is going on until I am done.
