Daisy is continuing to throw up - I think we need a new food for her....UPDATED

Daisy wouldn't eat the Iams puppy food anymore, so we transferred her onto this one dog food my MIL buys from Petland called "Grammy Pot Pie". Daisy loves it, but ever since she started to eat it, if she doesn't get it at regaular intervals, she pukes - mainly bile, sometimes other things depending on whether she ate a liver treat/kong cookie

She's currently 6 months old.

I've heard good things about Science Diet, but I have concerns....what if she doesn't like the food? I don't want to have piles of various dog food in my house that's not being eaten.

The vet said we could either give he pepcid A/C, or change her food...

Can anyone offer some help!? Thanks!

UPDATE: It's been one week since her surgery and about 4 days since she last threw up, and we found out that she wants her Iams pupy food back, so we're going to finish that bag, and then buy a small trial size bag of science diet and start mixing that in and see if all goes well from there. We haven't had to feed her at night anymore since she went back to the Iams and she's still staying regular outside. We may have found our break through....I'll keep you posted.

Most places have samples or really small bags of the food for you to try.
Make sure you introduce the new food slowly and watch her carefully.

We have tried twice to change Misty's food and both times she threw up almost constantly - so we are resigned to feeding her what she is eating now.

i agree, start small..then once you found your food, buy big.

We do a mix of science diet and chicken/lamb/rice combo from costco (kirkland)

Oscar had tummy problems for a while. He is doing great on Nature's Recipe. We use the Easy to Digest food that they offer. website I have to admit, he needed the Pepcid on a daily basis for a long time no matter which food we used. Now he gets Pepcid only as needed but it has been a while without it. When we tried new foods, we did end up with a lot of food that we could not use.

if you have a bag of food that your dog cannot eat, try to return it. we changed out puppies food and tried to return the bag to petco-saying that it wasnt agreeing with our dogs stomach and we gave it enough time to work, and they took it back with no problem. we had even used almost 1/2 the bag and they took it back. alot of the food companies have a 100% guarentee policy, so petco will just return it to the manufacturer. we have also returned toys that our puppy has destroyed in less than a day and they took them back-in my opinion if you are making toys for dogs, they should be durable. they have never given us a problem with returning anything.

good luck with your puppy, sometimes it takes trying a few different foods to find one that works with your dog-our dog has a very sensitive stomach.

good luck!

I forget who makes it, but one of the companies makes a low residue food, which is good for dogs with sensitive stomachs.
my mom had to buy it at the vet though.

we change foods everyone in a while, just to keep the dogs interested, b/c I couldn't imagine eating the same thing for the rest of my life.
We usually stick with Purina products.

Gizmo now is on prescription food - Hills Prescription Diet Canine I/D. We have to buy it from the vet.
He hasn't thrown up since we switched, about 7 months ago.

My dog was on this also. He would sometimes throw up that yellow bile. I honestly have been making him homemade food, and I've noticed such a change.

Call the vet and ask about the Prescription food.

!

We only use SD. I think my dogs really like it, much more than they liked Eukanuaba.

My older dog used to throw up every am. He also used to throw up more often when he didn't like his food, I think from all the bile in his stomach. Even now he might throw up if he didn't eat all day.

Ever since the SD, he doesn't throw up so I highly recommend it.

See I did a lot of research on dog food when we got Jasmine and I heard Science Diet is crap that the vet's push. SORRY but I hope Daisy feels better. We use NutroMax, it is very good and they make it in organic too. We use Large breed dog and they make varieties. Not conveient to buy but we have never had any problems with the food and a few people said that was a good brand. Search around on the food!! I hope she gets well soon!!

Why do you think vets push it? I hate that we never know with this dogfood. Esp since wasn't NutroMax one of the tainted foods, whereas SD wasn't even on the list at all.

So hard to know what is best for our dogs. All I can say for me is that I am used to the SD and have been afraid to even consider switching after that poision in the foods (since SD wasn't one of them).

Cooper was on this for a really long time and it really worked well. We've since switched because of other problems that rose to the surface but that's neither here nor there... I would definitely try the Pepcid... also, I'm almost positive that you can get samples of pet food so you don't have to buy a whole big bag.

Good luck!

Glad to hear she's doing well.

I have learned that there are some dogs on whom you cannot switch their food.
We tried switching Misty a couple of times and she vomits constantly every time....so we just stick to the original food.
