Master magician, fantastic faker or irrelevant exhibitionist? David Blaine may be many things, but nobody can accuse him of not being ambitious. For his next feat, the 33-year old spiritual illusionist will spend seven straight days and nights in a large human aquarium outside of Lincoln Center, where giddy girls can make jokes about shrinkage. For the finale, which airs on ABC as a special called 'Drowning Alive,' he will attempt to break the world record by holding his breath for nine minutes. More an endurance artist like Harry Houdini than a smoke-and-mirrors trickster like David Copperfield, Blaine started as a Times Square street magician (doing card and levitation tricks) before catapulting to worldwide fame with public stunts. In 2003 he fasted for 44 days while suspended in a glass case above the Thames in London; in 2002 he stood atop a 22-inch-wide tower in Bryant Park for 35 hours; and in 2000 he spent 61 hours encased in ice. Some say his biggest trick could be getting people to care.

They showed him this morning on GMA and I think said he'd been in there for 20 hours already. I think they are airing a  2 hour special on Monday night on ABC when he comes out. I really don't understand him. I like his "tricks" but what is this - look at the dumb thing I can do?
