Day 3 of nursing strike...help!!!
I am beyond frustrated....DS (who is 3 months old) has been refusing the breast the past 3 days and I don't know what to do. He will nurse for a few minutes then pull away screaming, arching his back, and pushing me away. I've tried skin on skin, expressing milk manually and then putting him on, burping him, calming him down and trying again....the only time he's ok is when he's very sleepy/just waking up.
What else can I do and what can be causing this? Should I give him a bottle from my freezer stash?
I did eat spicy food a few days ago and I suspect that may have triggered the strike but wouldn't it be out of my system by now?

Re: Day 3 of nursing strike...help!!!
I went through this with my son from about 4 or 5 weeks until about 12 weeks or so. I tried EVERYTHING!!!!! It was so heartbreaking. After weeks and weeks of trying everything I could possibly think of, I found only 2 things that worked (neither of which is ideal in many situations!): the first is to walk around while nursing. I don't know if it was the distraction or the movement or what, but it worked pretty well. The other thing that worked without fail every single time was to lay him flat on his back and lean over him to nurse. It was definitely a bit weird (and certainly not something I would have done in front of anyone lol), but it worked amazingly well. I think his frustration had something to do with my let down not being fast enough, because, just like you, it would happen a few minutes into each nursing session. SO, leaning over him, I think helped gravity to be on his side with milk flow. After a while, he did grow out of this, and now at 5 months, he nurses with no problem (except distraction of everything going on around him!). GL and and if you have any other questions, please feel free to fm me! What you described sounds like exactly what I went through!

Re: Day 3 of nursing strike...help!!!
that happened to me around the time that DS was about 4 months old. He was going through a growth spurt and I don't think I was producing enough milk to satisfy him. I started nursing him every 2 hours so he wasn't starving and after a few days I think my milk caught up because things went back to normal. I wouldn't suggest giving any supplemental if you think it could be supply problem because that will only make the situtation worse.

Re: Day 3 of nursing strike...help!!!
I know it seems early but my ds did this at 3.5 months and 2 teeth appeared the week of his 4 month birthday and it stopped. I thought the sames things- but like the other poster said if it is a supply thing, feed him often and your supply should catch up.
