Day care mama's: teacher to baby ratio...
What is ideal? What should I be looking for?
Called two places. One told me 2 adults for 12 kids of all ages --don't love the sound of that.
Another told me 2 babies (up to 2 yrs old..DS will be 11 months) to one adult--loved sound of that.
So what is the norm? Just starting my search.

I believe the law requires no less than a 1:4 ratio.

Then, I think when my DS went to the 3 y.o. room, it became 1:7.

What they said! DD is 17.5 months, and the ratio in her class is 1:4.

Thanks girls..the whole thing is daunting. In my preliminary search there seem to be so many differences between places, lucky I have time to research and find our best fit.

This.
Not all places stick to this though - the day care we found for DD has 3 adults for 10 kids, and it's a 2 year-old program.

Re: Day care mama's: teacher to baby ratio...
If they're going by their own numbers and not following the law, I'd steer clear of that place. It's not worth it. DS is 2 and is in a room with 10 kids and that's a LOT of kids. There are 2 teachers in there (5:1 ratio) but it's a lot of kids and a whole lot of craziness and chaos!

Re: Day care mama's: teacher to baby ratio...
I am sure that it is 2 under 2 to every adult. Not sure if it differs in different daycare settings, though. We are in a home daycare setting. I feel like the law would be constant across the board though. As they get older, the ratio increases.

Re: Day care mama's: teacher to baby ratio...
Right now, I know the law is 1:4 but DD is in a room with I think 8 kids and they always have at least 3 in there at a time..the best thing to do is visit and you really get a feel for what's going on...try even going unannounced...I did and some places gave a tour on the spot and some didn't but either way, you got a feel for what was going on

Was this a center or home care?
Centers are not allowed to mix age groups so I would run from this place.

Re: Day care mama's: teacher to baby ratio...
DS' DC was 1:2 when he was in their baby house (less than 1 year old).
Now the ratio is 1:4 at the toddler house (1-2 year olds). This is the state requirement.
