Day care or In home day care and vacation pay

I've been visiting in home day cares and day care centers for the past three weeks. At the last in home center I visited I was told that if DS does not go in on the days he is scheduled to go that we still have to pay for those days. I never asked about pay during our vacation time. Is this normal?

Because your child is holding a spot in the daycare. Just because he isnt there, doesnt me you dont pay

It sucks because you can sav emoney. I know SOME places let you take 1 or 2 weeks vacation, but not alot. Mine doesnt. We went on vacation a few weeks ago and Seamus only goes 2 days a week. He missed 3 days and I stil had to pay

I know it's normal for Daycare centers, I always though home daycare was more flexible. Ugh!

Thank you. That is what I thought but my mother kept insisting this can't be with all places.

DS goes to a small, in home daycare center. We only pay on the days when he is there. If he is sick or we go away, I don't have to pay - but I know this is not really the norm.

My niece goes to an in home center and they only pay the days she is there.

We use a center and pay for every day of the year!

The center-based daycare we were told we had to pay no matter what.

The home-based daycares I checked out we only paid for the time we used.

our day care center says they work in a 2 week vacation into the price.

I hate it!
My old daycare center did because we paid by the week. So even though They were only open 3days the week of thanksgiving and I took her out, I still had to pay. But in that case they said it was on 50% so we could hold her spot.

ETA: however they did say once you've been there a year we got one week 'free'


This new place is monthly so regardless of if she's there or not, I pay for that month in full. *sigh* Its a little better since the monthly rate is less that what I was paying weekly. It is helpful for months that have 5 weeks versus those that have 4. If that makes sense.

We go to a licensed daycare. We get two vacation/sick weeks and would just pay 1/2 for those 2 weeks.

After that I think it's full

They go to in home daycare and I pay if they are there or not, including vacations!!

I use a sitter, in her home. I pay a weekly rate, regardless of whether DD goes or not. We are going on vacation for a week in September/October and she agreed to take 1/2 pay for that week. It is annoying..but I see it as..we all get paid vacation from our jobs, right? Why shouldn't they be entitle to that. Also, they are accepting your DC on the premise that they will receive a certain amount of money a week/month. If you start not bringing your DC and not paying for that time, it can become not worth it for them. My Dh gets annoyed, but I think it's worth it to have someone I trust 100% with my child, I''ll pay for an extra few days here or there.
Also, mine is very flexible with time and I can leave her there later or drop off early whenever I need to.

i use a sitter in her home. i pay her an hrly rate.
when my children dont go, i dont pay. when i'm off, i dont pay. when she's off, i dont pay.
it works out wonderfully!
