Day three of a really bad cough

We've done basically everything we can do to help this cough along and he still sounds horrible.

Would you take your child to the ped tomorrow for only a cough? I know there isn't anything they can really do for them. WWYD?

I probably would only to make sure that there isn't fluid in the lungs or that it wasn't an infection rather than viral- like bronchitis.

did you call? Ask for tips or the mucinex? When Noah had just the cough, the Dr said be prepared for it to linger at least 2 weeks. Sure enough it did last just about 2 weeks.

Depending on the sound of it (if that makes sense) I would call the ped and have them make sure his lungs are clear. I don't like to mess around with coughs.

Ryan has had a cough for the past week also. I took him just make sure his lungs are clear and they were.

It doesn't hurt to check.

I would def. bring him in.
I only say this because Bry had a cough for days and it turned out to be croupe.
He also "flips out" at the Dr.s but, nothing was helping him. He needed a steroid.

I hope Jack feels better soon.

I agree with the others, I'd probably take him in tomorrow just to be safe.

Hope he's feeling better soon. His lady friend over here is just getting over a little head cold & mild ear infection Were they smooching again??

I would call and see what he/she says...he/she may want to see you or may say to wait a standard amt. of days (whatever that is)...

Kaila has this often, and every time I end up bringing her in. I just get very nervous and have to make sure her lungs are clear, along with her ears. Sometimes when she gets the cough she ends up with an ear infection as well.

Hope he gets better soon!!!

Thanks everyone for your input - I am without a doubt bringing him tomorrow.

We were just up with him for an hour and I finally got him to go back to sleep - at least for now.

I hate when they are sick like this and there is nothing we can do for them.

I would take him, only b/c my friends son had this cough for a week and when she took him he had a bacterial infection and was put on antibiotics and they saw fluid in his ear too.
i hope he gets better.

I think there is something going around... we brought DD in to the pediatrician a week ago to have her antibiotic changed for an ear infection... in the waiting room all the kids were hacking away. Wouldn't you know a few days later... she had a horrible cough. She's too little for OTC meds so we brought her back to the doctor... they did a chest x-ray which came back fine, but like me, she wheezes which is what ended up happening... so she ended up with an additional nebulizer med.

Never hurts to take them to the doc and get checked. Better safe than sorry I say. Although it stinks when they pick something up in the waitng room - LOL

maddie had a bad cough... it the cough loose or tight?

anyway- her cough was bad- she didn't have a fever- turned out she had slight bronchitis and they gave her a prescription cough medicine with albuterol in it


ETA- DD HATES doc too- acts like a maniac... but ya just gotta be safe!
