Re: Daycare and calling
I've never called. DS is in a center so even if I did call, they would then have to go upstairs and see how DS is doing. DD will be starting there at 11 weeks, and I doubt I'll call then either. I trust them and they always call me if there's an issue.

Daycare and calling
I call only if they are not feeling that well or had a hard time at drop off...but I can also watch my children live on video at anytime so I look at that all the time at work!
ETA: I call for other reasons, to ask questions about lunch, parties etc. They are sweet as always.

Daycare and calling
With my first I called pretty much once a day (at my lunch time) for first few months. If we had a rough drop off I call about an hour later to be sure all has settled down.
My 2nd has been a bit different. I called once a day at lunch time for the first month or so. Then I didn't call---only if we had a rough drop off as I still do with the first.
I know both head teachers will contact me via text if there are any concerns.
However, you shouldn't feel like you are bothering them. If it's internal with you, don't worry about it! If they are making you feel that way, I would be feeling bad too and would likely bring it up in conversation.
Daycare is tough for mommas...you need to do what will put you at ease. Eventually you will get to the point where you won't feel compelled to call.

Daycare and calling
I think I only called the first day. Any other times I call it's to talk to the director and let her know if someone else is picking up, I never call to ask about my DC.

Daycare and calling
I only call if I need to ask them something - I don't call just to check in, if my kid is having a bad day and I'm at work, there isn't much I can do.
I do hate though when they call me when nothing is really wrong - just to ask a question or something. When I see that number come up on the caller id - I immediately panic.

OMG whenever I see that number come up on the phone, I have a heart attack. They always start out with, hi, she is fine, it's not an emergency..... So they must know how it freaks us out!

Re: Daycare and calling
When he was real young, I used to call and ask how he was doing. They encourage it - they would tell me, call whenever you want and we can update you! Now that he is older and loves it so much I don't feel the need to call or anything but I'm always welcome to if I want. Also, they have a portal through their website where I can go on and view pics of him throughout the day to see what activities he has been doing and such. It's great.
Today I did call to check on him because he had an ear infection on Thursday afternoon and was given AB that evening. So, he was on them and home taking it easy/resting all of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Yesterday and today he is totally back to himself so I sent him to daycare today. Over the summer they do a half summer camp with him too so he loves it so much -- anyway, I did call today just to make sure he is "himself" because he just got over being sick and is on AB.
The report I got today was: oh hi, he's doing great! Definitely back to his old self! He just finished painting our weekly project and right now he is getting ready for circle time and story time. We sang the ABC's and Itsy-Bitsy Spider before and he loved that. He had a snack around 10am of a banana and raisins. He will go outside after lunch for pool time and then it's nap time, feel free to call back later for more info but yeah he's doing awesome! They won't have mandarin Monday today as his mandarin teacher is actually on vacation this week. We are doing gymnastics instead. BTW, he blows kisses to all the staffers as they walk by the windows! So cute!

Yes - I see the name pop up and I'm like DEAR GOD.
I answer, Hello?
"Danielle, it's Dawn, HE IS FINE, COMPLTELY FINE! ...his one bib got totally soaked and tons of paint on it so instead of sending it home at the end of the week for a cleaning, I'm going to pack it today for a cleaning if that's alright"
That kind of thing.

That would bother me so much! Why do they have to call about that instead of telling you upon pickup?
Daycare never calls. Only texts if absolutely necessary. I prefer that because it's easier to respond to texts than phone calls. And never about anything like that! If she has dirty clothes, DH gets a bag at the end of the day, if they didn't wash it themselves. We only get contacted if she has loose poop more than once or twice or if she's running a slight temp.

Oh - it depends on the parent.
I told them they can call me about anything/everything.
So, they do.
Others have it as to only call when something is wrong -- like he fell and scraped his knee type of thing.
