Re: Daycare/Babysitter Vent
Posted by Princessmaris Which tutor time did you go too?
That was going to be my question too! The tutor time I checked out the conversation went something like this:
Me: "Do you do part time?"
Them: "Sure!"
Me: "What is the rate for part time?"
Them: "Same as full time."
Me: "Oh, you mean the same rate per day?"
Them: "No, you pay the same price as you do for full time."

Re: Daycare/Babysitter Vent
I just got another "reasonable" offer:
She wants $350/wk and wants to be on a teacher's schedule so she wants to have all school holidays off, the summer off, and get paid for it.
Yeah sweetie, you and me both.
Unfortunately, usually if you are looking for daycare you don't have those kinds of luxuries.
Is this for real or am I just finding the gems? I mean, am I being unreasonable to think that I shouldn't have to pay my babysitter for an entire summer that she is not babysitting, plus hire someone else to cover her during the summer and on school holidays??

Re: Daycare/Babysitter Vent
After scrambling to find someone to watch Miranda yesterday when my mom and I got into it I realized how fortunate we are. I hope something works out for you soon.

I can't even believe how expensive it it these days.I did daycare in my home for 2 babies while my youngest was a toddler and I got paid 75.00 per week for 50 hours! This was 14 years ago.

Re: Daycare/Babysitter Vent
The average cost of full time daycare is $1000 per month. What hours do you need? where are you located?
I had Molly in a daycare parttime for almost a year and paid partime rates. I do now too in her new place.

Nassau - south shore. I'm already on a waiting list for great daycare that also does part time. Full-time is only $900. Part time is less. I know they exist...I just didn't know they'd be so hard to get into.

Re: Daycare/Babysitter Vent
Must be so frustrating... My friends SIL runs a daycare from her house in Hicksville, is that convenient for you? I can ask if there is a space and what the price is, I have no idea.

Many 's!!
I'm having the same problems - the so I understand how you feel. After many discussions with my DH I've decided to leave my job in the city and watch a couple of kids in my home.
I think that finding good daycare is just as stressful as losing a job, divorce and death - which almost happened to my little girl on Tuesday.

Re: Daycare/Babysitter Vent
Do you think that in-home daycare providers want more because of insurance reasons?
If I were to bring anyone else's child into my home to watch I would add an extra umbrella coverage g*d forbid anything would happen.
Unfortunately, its just because there is such a demand for daycare that people can charge what they want and sometimes parents are left with few options but to pay it.
Its one of the reasons I stayed home...my salary would just be going to daycare.

The kitchen area that is normaly gated off while the kids have snacks wasn't, and she found a piece of food on the floor, put it in her mouth, and choked. The daycare person stuck her finger's down her throat, got it out (thankfully), and Emma vomited all over the place as a result.
I didn't find out about it until yesterday when I got a phone call from the provider because her assistanr forgot to tell me what happened, and just said that Emma spit up.

Liabilty insurance is very expensive - Also if the in home care provider is legal - there are certian things that you have to do regularly to be within state regulations. I couldn't see an in home care provider charging more than 1000/month for full time care.

The overwhelming majority of people who do in home care are not legal so you are right, they shouldn't be charging more than a legit place or a daycare...yet many of the one's I've come across do want more. That's what I don't get...

That is absolutely ridiculous! The state sets guidlines on what you should charge - Anything above that is plain old greedy!

How horrifying! I"m glad Emma is OK. I'm not trained in life saving techniques, but it doesn't sound like they handled things well.

Thanks! I know that things happen, and that it could have happened in my own kitchen - I don't know - I just think that when you pay someone that they should be extra careful.
