Daycare Bday Party Question...
There was a big party last week for a girl in DS' class who turned 2 at daycare(Elmo, face painting, goodie bags, etc).
Should I have gotten the girl a present? DS wasn't in that day but, he was given a very nice goodie bag.
Also -is this normal for parties at daycare? I thought the norm for daycare parties was just cupcakes/treats and the bigger things happened outside of school (that's what the 2 other 2nd b-days in his class have been).
Thanks!

Re: Daycare Bday Party Question...
i think thats nuts. i would expect that at a birthday party, outside of daycare. ive only seen cupcakes and i only got DS's "girlfriend" a gift for her birthday.

I agree, I would never think to send a gift for a daycare party.

Re: Daycare Bday Party Question...
Some parents choose to not have a party for their DC. I can understand that.
I have seen at my daycare some parents will substitute an outside party for one held at daycare. Last year my DS had a girl who had a magician come to the class. I sent in a small gift for her. I don't believe all the DC gave her a gift, but I felt like it was her party so I sent something small.
This year again there was a child who had a party at the school. Can't remember what the mom had come for entertainment, but I sent a small gift again.
I don't think a parent would expect you to send a gift, but I thought since it was more than the usual cupcakes that I would give the child a little gift.
I think it's kinda nice because then I don't have to take up time on the weekends to bring DS to a party!
ETA: I wouldn't say it's "normal" for this to happen at daycare, but then again I have seen it a few times now so it does happen. I don't think it's crazy or strange.... just different. Personally, I think it's easier!

Re: Daycare Bday Party Question...
Thanks for the comments!
I think I'm not going to send something in this time (since it came and went and DS wasn't even there) but, if it happens again, I'll send something small.
I'm also happy to hear that this isn't uncommon or common so I don't feel obligated to bring entertainment into DS' class in December for his b-day celebration!

Oh yeah, I forgot to say that especially if your DS wasn't there, you don't need to give a gift. Think of it as if you were invited to an outside party. You wouldn't normally give a gift if your DS didn't go!
And no, you definitely don't need to have entertainment brought into daycare for his birthday! I think the parents who do this are not having a regular party for their DC so this makes up for it!
