Daycare costs for twins?

We'd need about 8am-4pm, 3 or 4 days a week.

We'd prefer in home, but we could do a center if absolutely necessary.

We already spoke with someone and she wants about $500 a week (for 3 or 4 days) and paid vacation. She has no commute to our house at all, so no real commute expense for her either.

I don't know - I feel like that's high. Am I dreaming? I really have no idea what it should be...

Re: Daycare costs for twins?

That sounds a little high to me. I pay 250 a week at an in home daycare (someone elses home, she has about 10 kids).

Btw, congrats!

Re: Daycare costs for twins?

I think that $500 is a little high since it's only for 3 or 4 days. If it was 5, I would say it's fair.

We use a center (1 baby) and it's $307 per week. That is for extended hours 6:30am - 7pm. I think the regular hour rate is $289 a week.

Re: Daycare costs for twins?

For 12 hrs a week I pay $200 for 3 kids. 14month old twins and a 4 year old.

It's sort of salary based where if she doesn't work I still pay her. Such as holidays or if we go on vacation. I also giver her a bonus at the end of the year.

Honestly she is well worth it!

Re: Daycare costs for twins?

My cousin makes $100/day ($500/week) for 2 year old twins in their home. I think that $500 a week is high for 3-4 days per week. I would say that $100/day is a good rate though.

Re: Daycare costs for twins?

An in-home nanny for infant twins does run $500 a week for 5 days.

Friends of ours are paying $500. a week for their infant twins for a live-in, Sunday night to Friday night. She works 7 am-7 pm.

Someone to live-out for 4 days would be about the same.

Speaking from experience, caring for two infants is very different from caring for an infant and a toddler.

In the early days, we went through 18 bottles and over 20 diaper changes a day. There are moments when both will be screaming and their caretaker will just have to use triage.

It's still cheaper to have care for twins in your home the first year. Infant care at the leading centers runs over 1K for each and no center will keep them on the same feeding (it's actually against NYS law for a center to bottle feed both babies at the same time) or napping schedule. Your weekends will be crazy because they will each be on their own complete different schedule for eating and sleeping. When I priced out Kiddie Academy for my DC's it was going to be about $2,700 per month for both according to the 2007 rates.

For the first year, in home care is really the way to go and I'd say $100 a day minimum is the going rate in your area.

Re: Daycare costs for twins?

i used to work for a family 10-6 mon - friday.

2 kids but 1 in school most of the day. i did all kids wash and put away, made kids beds and kept up with their rooms and play room. made breakfast some days always lunch and dinner for kids only. cleaned up kids dishes. drove the kids as they got older to misc stuff. (i started when on child was 3 and still home and one was 3 weeks old) I worked with them for 5 years.

I got 2 weeks paid vaca, plus all the days they were off from work/on vacation paid and 100% paid health insurance

I lived 15 mins away and used my car for any driving. when they were young it was play groups, play dates library programs etc, not that much at all.

I got paid $450 a week cash

I also straighten up the house and did misc things as needed. including taking the trash out, empty the dishwasher etc. But I did this all on my own this was never ever expected of me.

so $500 might be a little high, but not all that crazy. it is double the work since both babies will be the same age.
but then again I don't know what else you would need her to do. I know the wash is the hardest thing to keep up with.

i work in a daycare and am the teacher in the infant classroom-i know at our center it is full time-so whether you bring the kids in 3 days or 5 its the same amount. For my room its about 250 a week for one child. I think if you have multiples tho they may give a discount. HTH!

Re: Daycare costs for twins?

it sounds high to me because the day is only 8 hours. for 4 days a week you are paying over $15.50 per hour. if its 3 days youare paying over 20 per hour. if you are paying cash and it your nanny is not paying taxes then its more.

i know my husbands job, a major finacial conpany offeres back up day care in the employees home and they send a nanny from an agency completly insured qualified etc ( we havent used it but have heard) and their pay is 16-17 per hour. so dependign on who you have it may be high. only you can decide how "worth it " this person is. i know for me to work and pay 20 per hour it doesnt make financial sense.

i have a temporarty situation before i become a SAHM but i have twins and have had had scattered paid help over 4 people since they have been born. Mainly family has been watching them for no charge. Anyway for the peole i have had I paid between 10-13 per hour depending on the responsibiites experience and what they wanted.
