Daycare/Nursery School Dilemma--Really confused and could use help
DS is in Tutor Time and it is great. The staff loves him and us and we have no problems there. DC would start there in the Fall and I would receive a 10% discount so I would save $236 a month.
Dilemma- There is a great nursery school 10 blocks away from Tutor Time in which I enrolled DS for sept.
Con -Basically 2 kids would be in 2 different spots so drop off/pick up woluld be hard and then I lose the 10% savings
Pro--My son will have a better education (from what I hear)
I am so confused between saving $ and sanity versus DS's education
Advice?????????

No advice but...remember when we were all pregnant and wondering how we were going to get the whole daycare/work routine to work? We did...so I do believe you'll make this work - if it's best for him to go to the other school.
No advice but I'll cheer you on

Re: Daycare/Nursery School Dilemma--Really confused and could use help
I prob. have a very unpopular view on this...but here goes.
I feel like our DC will have soooooo many years of schooling once they hit kindegarten, let them be kids. I mean if he was your only child and it was not going to make your morning more difficult or hit your pocket harder I'd say go for the preschool, but if having both children in one place makes you sane...I always vote sanity. Also, Tutor time from what I have heard does teach them a lot.
You only know what is best for you and your children, you'll make the right choice for you..I know its hard sometimes..good luck

Well, you can add another PRO to TT in that they are more of an educational based daycare versus just someone "watching" your kid...
Edited cuz I'm a dummy and put con....
Oh, and maybe weigh exactly what the nursery school is doing differently from TT.

Honestly, for your sanity and convenience, I would keep DS in the daycare for the time being.

I think that if he is happy where he is, and you are happy where he is, you shouldn't change it!
Why add another thing to your daily routine by making two more stops a day? If you had no other choice and had to do it then of course you would - but if you are happy with the care he gets I would stay with it!

Re: Daycare/Nursery School Dilemma--Really confused and could use help
I vote sanity as well.
If he's doing well where he is and doesn't seem bored, why mess with a good thing.
I struggle with this every day. MIL watches DS. I know she loves him and takes excellent care of him, but I also know she's lazy. SO he's not getting the best physical interaction, ie tummy time, rolling around on the floor etc. I can put him in a small private daycare, where he would get that, but then I would lose my sanity (dropping off, picking up, etc. - I work really crazy hours and have no other options) I make up for it wherever I can, whenever I can.
I'm sure you do the same re: his education - reading to him, interacting with him. He's not ready to write his disertation yet, so do what works for your family now.

wow..you described my future situation to a T! When we decide to have another child i will have the same problem b/c i like the daycare my DS is in now (he's 19 month), but when he's 3 their is another school that's suppose to be better but is a good 15-20 min from my job. however, i would want my new child to be in the place DS is now as it is really good for infant/toddlers, i get a discount and its right by my job. so if i choose to do that, I would have go to two separate places too. No real good advice but Make the decision that will make it easiest on you having to take care of two kids and working

Re: Daycare/Nursery School Dilemma--Really confused and could use help
Thanks guys--DH doesnt mind the drop off/pick up---we will see what we are going to do. Thank god I really dont have to make a decision until this summer----but I might lose money at the new place if I reneg on the spot.
Did I also mention that TT provides food and SS doesnt? should that factor in my decision?

FYI:
In order to be licensed by OFCS, preschool teachers have to have a degree in early childhood education.
So I would keep both children together at the same place, since both places are really a preschool one just has extended hours
ETA: This was meant for the Day Care Center

Just thinking of having that carseta to lug around everywhere again, and you have to bring New Baby in when Christopher gets dropped off, and strapping in Christopher.....all that would be enough to drive me insane!!!!! But then again Chris really has the patience for that stuff....

Re: Daycare/Nursery School Dilemma--Really confused and could use help
i chose sanity. i think some daycares have great curriculums. as op said think about a snow day like today and lugging car seats and having to take your one child out to pick up the other....

I completely agree. I took my son out of a daycare where he was learning evaporation & condensation to one where he was learning the letter K (something he learned a few years ago). He had a hard time adjusting to the downgrade in expectation but in the long run, I don't think it made any difference to him.
Go for sanity.

Re: Daycare/Nursery School Dilemma--Really confused and could use help
Honestly- I think the whole *educational* aspect of nursey school/pre school is a little overblown. Children need to be children and PLAY first and foremost. Being around other children and not put in front of a television is the best education for a very young child (IMHO).

I would wait. Unless he was incredibly bored at day care and hated it, why make the switch. He has plenty of time to get an education and I am sure you do a lot a home to get his brain stimulated.
