Daycare price for unique situation - does this sound right?
DS1 has been attending the same daycare since he was 3 months old. He is now 4. Come September he will be in a different school from 9 - 3:30 but I still need before and aftercare. I would drop him off at 8 and pick up b/w 5:30 and 6 but he will be bused to the other school for the hours listed above. Cost is 500 per month. Does that sound reasonable?
I should add that ds2 will be starting there is September also so it seemed easier to drop and pickup at the same point.

That seems expensive to me. Are you really set on the other school with the short hours? If not, why not put him in a daycare that has the hours you need? At 4, he can still stay in some daycares for at least 2 more years until he's ready for 1st grade.
My school district only offers 1/2 day kingergarten so I'm not even going to bother with that and will keep my son in daycare until he enters 1st grade...

Seems okay to me - its about 125/week, about 2 hours a day, 10 hours a week, $12.50/hour.
3 hours a day would be $8.33/hour

I should have mentioned, he is considered special needs so he has to go to the other school as his primary. Daycare is really just before and after care.
Otherwise I would agree that it doesn't make sense for me to do this arrangement with the split schools if the hours are ideal.

I forgot to mention, it is 4 days per week. Although I suppose that is still about $10/hour.
I feel like I could get another mom to do it for me cheaper. Yet because I have DS2 it would be just easier to pick and drop them off at the same location.

I think it sounds in-line with what our daycare charges for before/after care in k but, our district only has half day k so the kids are there longer than your DS will be...

Thank you for mentioning this. I forgot that our district does before and after care so I can check their rates on the web. DS isn't applicable for their program because he is only in preschool (you have to be in K to be in there program). Anyway, they charge $179 per week for 7am to 6pm (those are the daycare hours too) so seems my $500 per month is actually pretty good.
