Daycare...probably asked before...sorry
I'm getting antsy to start looking into daycare and with my limited time off I think I want to start...NOW. I have two places so far that I want to consider and take a look at.
Do you all think that now is a good/bad time to look? Would it be to my advantage to get on a list now at almost 4 months? What do you think the odds are that we will get in for May?
LOL - Sorry for so many questions. This is the dominating thing on my mind right now and I can't let it go.

I don't think it is a bad idea to start looking now. I know that my SIL had her daycare lined up for my neice before she was 8 months pregnant.

I'd start looking.
I know some day care centers by me are already advertising fall enrollment. It can't hurt to look now.

Re: Daycare...probably asked before...sorry
I started looking when I was 16 weeks and only found one place that would accept my baby in March
Start early and good luck!

Now is the perfect time to start. Some of the waiting lists are so long. Unless you decide to do an in-home daycare, which may be more likely to accomodate you.

Re: Daycare...probably asked before...sorry
It's never too soon to look. I've found the whole process pretty frustrating. The well-known acredited places (through naeyc) all seem to have a waiting list. The problem is, many places will take your information but will not even accept a deposit or waitlist application until after the baby is born, and closer to the point that you want to begin daycare services. I am also looking for May and one place wouldn't accept a deposit until April (meaning they wouldn't put me on a waiting list until then, even AFTER I toured the facility)! Another center through Hofstra would not even consider me until September. Many places will also not accept infants younger than 6 weeks.
I was able to place my name on one waiting list so far, and I'm really hoping it works out. I'm hesitant to look into places that are not acredited through naeyc considering the acredited centers have to adhere to pretty rigorous standards. Regardless, I may look into some other local centers as well.
I would definitely look now to get a better idea of what is out there. Try naeyc.org as a starting point. There's also the childcare council of nassau and suffolk county. Hope this helps!
