DD is not burping....is there anything I can do?

My 10 week old DD always used to fuss a little when we interrupted her feedings to burp her, but now she has tamtrums and its pretty much impossible to burp her. She starts hysterical crying and moving so much its even hard to hold her. We try as long as we can, but we usually give up and this is leading her to spitting up a lot.

Any suggestions?

Thanks! Chat Icon

My DD burps best when I rub her back in a circular motion...I usually put her over my shoulder...but sometimes she's in a sitting position on my lap.

ds goes nuts sometimes when i try to burp him. i find that it's when he squirms the most that he has the biggest burp, so i would be persistent with dd. maybe try changing positions - this sometimes works for ds - i'll put him over my shoulder if he doesn't like sitting up, etc.

the other trick for getting the burp out that i learned at childcare class is to burp in this pattern:

20 firm pats on the back, then 10 rubs up and down, then a light tickle up and down. then repeat the cycle. it has really worked for us!

Sometimes laying DD on her belly across my lap while rubbing her back upwards helped.

I'll try the circular motion next time.

She's starts flailing (?) around, it's hard to even hold her sometimes!

I tried all of the above and...

held them and did deep knee bends (I know, this is a joy at 3 amChat Icon ). I swear the change in "altitude" sometimes did the trick.

or, I would also walk up and down the stairs (again, very enjoyable at 3 amChat Icon ) and make my gate very bouncy. That usually did the trick when all else failed.

Ok, Ava was a HORRIBLE burper, as well, and there was a few things that worked. One of those things was walking up and down the stairs. I don't know why, but it worked.
The other thing was we would hold her under her arms and lift her quickly, but not too fast, over our heads, then slowly back down. You do what you have to do, right?Chat Icon

I never really burped DD. A nurse in the hospital told me that we're the only "species" that MAKES their young burp...

that being said, DD burps by herself....mahybe it just isn't necessary?

I thought DD was the only one who burped while going up and down the stairs! Chat Icon Works every time. She has also started getting VERY angry when we try to burp her about 90% of the time, flailing a little too, and this is a big help!
