dd is now sleeping on her tummy...

but she doesnt fully roll yet!Chat Icon
she can get from her back to her belly and cant go back. This is making me nervous when she sleeps. BUT then she cries if we roll her onto her back again. any suggestions? I might take a look at BRU to see if they have anything to keep her on her back. We had a really bad sleep positioner. Maybe there is something else.

I think that anything you use to keep her in place is less safe than letting her roll. It won't take more than a few weeks before she can roll herself back again. Give her lots of tummy time during the day for practice.

Good point! I just looked at BRU website and they have the contraptions that she cant get out of. They look kinda scary for where she is at. She will probably cry more. I guess the next few weeks bring no sleep...

My doctor also said that once she rolls on her belly that I should leave her as long as she is happy. You may want to check in with your doctor to she if he/she thinks your baby would be ready for belly sleep as well.

Re: dd is now sleeping on her tummy...

Totally up to each mom - but I let DD sleep on her belly since 4 weeks old - she was just a better belly sleeper. In fact - she wasn't really a back sleeper at all. She always has good neck control so I wasn't too worried. And I have the video monitor . She is rolling both ways now but wasn't rolling either way up until about 2 months ago. I think belly is just more comfy for most babies. How is her neck control?

it is good. but are you concerned when she's laying on her belly about her face being mashed in the bed? This is my concern. I feel like she cant breathe. Maybe its overreacting. Last nite she turned onto her belly and most of her face was in the bed. Her nose was partially up. Just concerns me.

Don't they sell wedges to keep the baby on the back? Ask your dr. if this is necessary/safe....

They say that once they can roll over themselves into that position, they are fine. If you can be comfortable with it, I would let her sleep. Those little contraptions make me more nervous!

Re: dd is now sleeping on her tummy...

well, at 4 weeks my DH and i had a wedding to go to and left the baby with the MIL- well, we came back to DD sleeping on her tummy, and i flipped on the MIL. but, ever since then, shes been sleeping on her tummy. she slept with us until she was almost 4 months old, and then went into the crib, so since she was with us, i was never nervous. Chat Icon dont be nervous- the way i thought of it, a lot of thing have changed since our parents raised kids- and our parents always put US on our tummies out of the trend that if we vomited or spit up, we would choke and die...and now the trend is stomach....anyway, i wouldnt be surprised if the trend is tummies again once we get older. anyway, dont worry about it....if she is a better sleeper on her tummie, let her be- shes going to be rolling back and forth in no time anyway, and u wont be able to stop her. I hear you. Well, Ava likes to be smothered. When she's tired she buries her face under my or DH's armpit (poor thing Chat Icon ) and when she naps in her swing, she likes the covers up around her cheeks. When I go in to get her in the morning before she could roll over she'd be in the corner diagonal with her face buried in the corner, and it looked bad, but she can breathe just fine.
