we took DD to kidz kuts in merrick, it was eh..i wasn't thrilled with them

This is where we took DD too- and I felt the same way.
I take DD to the Lemon Tree now- and I have been happy.

Zippity Doos in Merrick.
There is also a kids cut place in Sunrise Mall Massapequa. I wasn't crazy about them but I know a lot of people who really like them.

We did Zippity Doos as well, expensive but a cute place.
