DD's First Plane Ride tomorrow - any late minute tips?
We are going to Chicago tomorrow for a couple days. It's DD's first plane ride. She's 10 weeks old.
Any tips besides feeding her on take off and landing?
TIA!!

Bring an extra shirt for you just in case. We flew with DD when she was 12 weeks old and she was an absolute angel. I didn't even have to feed her taking off or landing b/c she was sleeping both times we took off and was a sleep one time when we landed. The white noise on the plane was probably part of the reason why she slept so much. I'm sure she'll do great this is the best age to travel with them.

Extra paci if she uses them
Bring a heavy blanket, it's really cold and windy here for the next 2 days. It should warm up to mid 40's by the weekend.

Re: DD's First Plane Ride tomorrow - any late minute tips?
1) Bring an extra change of clothes for her in your carry on and for you and DH.
2) Be prepared to change her diaper on the floor of the aircraft, so pack an old towel to put under your changing mat from your diaper bag. On all four flights to/from Hawaii last year the aircraft bathroom DID NOT have a changing table for me to use. Actually , one flight did have it, but it was broken and unstable. I changed DD on the floor by the bulkhead seats.
3) If you did not pay for her seat, order the aisle and window seat for you and your DH. NO ONE will want to sit in between you with a 10 month old on your lap. Unless the flight is packed, you will be able to use the middle seat for free for your DD's car seat. Bring th car seat with you to the boarding area and ask them if the flight is full and explain you are traveling w/a 10 week old.
4) BE AS SWEET AS PIE. I mean what ever they tell you, just smile and be sweet. Like a doe eyed deer in headlights, play dumb. Trust me, you will get a seat, any water you need for formula, ANYTHING you need for you DD they will bend over backwards to help you.
When we flew w/DD to Hawaii and there was no place on board to change her, one flight attendant let me change her in the first class section where the make the drinks and stuff, gave me a blanket to put on the floor and b/c they felt nbad and I was SO NICE we kept getting bottle after bottle of water for DD's formula. On the last flight back to Newark from Phoneix (we did Kona to Phoneix first) we were bumped to first class b/c we were delayed in Kona and I spoke (very sweetly) to the ground crew in Phoneix about it.
Sorry this is so long, but I HTH you have happy flight with DD.

run her hard at the airport to tire her out! when you check in, definitely ask if the flight is full, if not ask them for the aisle and window seats.
if you want to slip her some benadryl, she'll be out the whole time. we did that for our mexico trip

She is 10 weeks old I think, not 10 months.

Re: DD's First Plane Ride tomorrow - any late minute tips?
I would ask for bulk head seats when you get to the airport. They aren't assigned until check in. That way you have more room.
Also, the stroller and all the gear need to go through the x-ray machine, so make sure all of your stuff is in your diaper bag/carry on, before you get in line. That way you aren't scrambling to put everything in it's place and frustrating people behind you
If you FF and use powder, buy water after you get through security because if you have it in the bottles already, they will make you dump them.

We flew from Chicago Midway to Islip last week and they didn't make us dump the water. I'd keep at least one bottle with water, you never know what happens.

I guess it depends on the person who screens you then since you aren't allowed to bring liquids over 4 ounces as per TSA regulations. I doubt the airport will run out of bottled water if you are to purchase it after you go through security

We had a major issue when we flew out of JFK to Florida in July with our formula. I didn't even have the formula in the bottles but rather those RTF cans no opened. They almost didn't allow us to get on the plane because the guy kept telling us that we were not allowed to bring any liquid on the plane until after we got past security. After losing it and a supervisor coming over and me stating "what terrorist is going to bring their twins on the plane with them", they let us through. It might have been since in was July 4th and JFK, but I would bring a print out of the law on the TSA website. It plainly states that formula and breast milk are excluded from the limit of liquid.
Also, bring a paci so the baby can suck on something when you take off and land...it helps their ears out a lot.

Re: DD's First Plane Ride tomorrow - any late minute tips?
A lot of great advice here already! In the baby bag, be sure to put all medicine (including any diaper creams) in a quart size zip-lock bag. You can have multiple zip-locks for the baby, it just needs to be clear. As far as the formula, etc, the security people probably will not give you too much of a hassle. When you go through security, you will need to take the baby out of the carriage to put the carriage through the security machine. Wear slip on shoes that don't need to be tied! You will be carrying the baby so you won't have extra hands to tie your shoes. If you do have an extra seat for the baby seat, you have to put it by the window, not inthe middle seat. The reason is that if there is an emergency, you do not want to be stuck in an inside seat and can not get out (a flight attendant told me this). Also, if you have a seat for the baby, board as early as possible. Roll your baby seat onto the plane using the carriage (use a snap and go if possible), then have your DH or the flight attendant bring it to the gate for gate check. You will need the extra time to properly install the car seat. If you are carrying the baby for the flight, disregard all this and be the last ones ont he flight! You do not want to be carrying the baby for 1 minute longer than necessary

Re: DD's First Plane Ride tomorrow - any late minute tips?
Ooh, I just remembered another thing! If you have a snap and go, or the graco one, make sure to have something that is identifiable on it (like a bright sticker or something). When DH and I went to florida last year, we ended up with the wrong stroller at the gate It wasn't a big deal other than the fact that the other people had left a bib in the basket!

I meant incase they were running late and didn't have time to stop to buy water, but thanks for the heads up.
