Debate: What is a good gift to give for a wedding?

Here's the situation. My DH and I are having an argument. We are going to a wedding today. It is in a restaurant (not a catering hall). We are not that close with the couple. I said we should give $200, he thinks $250. What have you guys given for weddings in similar situations? What is the minimum give nowadays? Thank you for your help! Happy weekend all!

I think $200 is sufficient...You could probably even go less, but that is pretty generous for a restaurant wedding.

IMO $200 sounds more that enough, especially if you barely know them.

My DH knows the groom well and we never met the bride. We just haven't seen him in a while.

Re: Debate: What is a good gift to give for a wedding?

Will the $50 make or break your finances? Is it worth debating? Will the couple appreciate a more generous gift? Are they having it in a restaurant because they didn't want to go full blown catering hall and the expense?

I personally woudn't care where they had their wedding. I would give the same amount whether it's at a fancy place or a not so fancy place.

It's more about the relationship and what we could afford.

Sorry if this sounds confrontational but that's my two cents.

oh. well that's different. I understood it that you didn't know them that well. I would give the $250. like Bluize said, $50 probably won't make that big of a difference.

We worked it out and made a compromise.

$200 is enough. I got a bunch of $200 gifts from couples. I think that's fine, actually more than enough.

Re: Debate: What is a good gift to give for a wedding?

I always give $250 for people we are not that close to, unless they came to our wedding and gave less. In that case, we give them what they gave us.
