Dec 08/jan 09 moms, is your baby on a schedule yet?

just wondering if you are trying to get your little one on a schedule or do you let him/her dictate when he/she sleeps and eats?

also, do you still have to rock or hold the baby till he/she falls asleep? i do so and love it however, i wonder if i am spoiling her. she can sleep on me for hours but lately once i put her in the bassinet, she wakes up shortly after ( this occurs during the day.)

please share!

I'm a late Nov. mom and we have no schedule. My DD didn't really have true schedule until 5-6 months so I just kind of let him run the show right now.

I usually nurse him to sleep. He definitely doesn't go down awake and put himself to sleep.

Hi Lisa!
Ashley doesn't have a set schedule yet, but basically she's eating and sleeping around the same times each day. Sometimes on some days she just doesnt want to sleep much during the day. Usually after she eats she will get tired and fall asleep and sometimes I will hold her afterwards. Once I put her in her bassinet she usually stays asleep. I try to use her bassinet for daytime naps too, but sometimes she falls asleep in her swing. Sometimes it's hard to put her down if I am watching TV and she's cuddled on my chest sleeping. I enjoy her there as much as she does! Chat Icon

DS has a little schedule. We just moved him up to 5 oz, so he's eating around every 4.5-5 hours on average and sleeps 5-6 hours at night now.

We do not rock him to sleep. He falls asleep in the crib or the swing (nighttimes he's ALWAYS in his crib). Only when he fusses do I try and rock him to sleep in my arms.

Chat Icon - no she calls the shots !
IMO, at that age you are just spinning your wheels to try to get them to stick to a set schedule and you end up spending most of your time trying to get them to do what you want them to do....They have so much changes going on in their little bodies day to day....I never had my toddler on a really really rigid schedule either because , I'm a get up and go person and wanted him to be a little more go with the flow ( for us it worked) Yes, he always got his naps in, he ate the right amount etc... just not at very specific times ...and not always in the same place...

My DD ( 6 weeks) is pretty happy as long as she's got a full belly Chat Icon
and knock on wood, is sleeping excellent at night, wakes up 1-2x to eat and right back to sleep - so for now thats working for us too..

DD basically eats and is awake the same time every day, we give her a bath and put her down for the night the same time every night....she never really needed to be held to fall asleep just the first few weeks, now she'll fall asleep in her swing, glider or bouncy seat during the day and at night she goes down in her bassinet usually really quickly after finsihing her bottle...

Not really, although they tend to do the same things at the same times each day. They eat about every 3 hours still, sometimes 4. At night, DD just started going 6 hours - its been 3 nights in a row, am I crazy to think she has started to sleep through the night? DS is still waking for the 2 or 3 am feed.
They usually go down for the night around 11. I know its late but then they are up for the day around 5:30-6, I really don't want that to be earlier. Then they fall asleep around 7:30 until about 9 when they eat again, then sleep from about 10:30-11:30. Around 12 they eat again. 12:30 - another nap... and it goes all day like this. I don't force them to eat or sleep though, they dictate what goes on.

I usually don't rock them to sleep - they nap during the day in the swings, and at night usually fall asleep after eating a bottle. They EBF the whole rest of the day, but seem to associate the bottle with bed time, so I am keeping it.

Late November over here.
DD changes like the wind. Shes been napping now for 2.5 hours. Yesterday this nap was 30 min. So shes all over the place in terms of scheduling.
Same bedtime at night though.
I worked really hard on having her fall asleep on her own this vacation (Im a teacher- off this week) and it seemed to work. She falls asleep in her crib now on her own.
It was only until recently we realized she had reflux pretty bad. Pedi wants me to have her sleep in her carseat for naps and bedtime, and it has worked so well.

Pretty much the same. I start baths around 6:30, then bottle then bed for Ronan, then do it all over agin with Declan. They nap morning, afternoon and early evening and are in bed arund 7:30

Not at all. I feed on demand. DS tends to sleep a lot although he started staying awake for longer periods. He hates the crib so he sleeps in my arms at night. During the day, he naps in the swing, my lap or the stroller if we're out and about.
