Baby Ear Piercing
Okay... just asking your opinion on it b/c it started yesterday with the baby headband post.
Honestly, I'm not a fan of baby girls w/ pierced ears. If I have a girl I'd wait till she's old enough to make her own decision. I don't think it's so cute on babies. JMO. Now... hats and clips are sooo cute.

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
I think it's cute. Apparently my mom had mine pierced when I was 9 months old. I might wait a little bit longer to do my own daughter's - and actually it's not a topic DH and I have discussed, but I have a feeling he'd be against it...not sure why.

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
I didn't see the headbands thread so I don't know what that was about. But as far as ear piercing is concerned...
I had my ears pierced when I was a month old. I don't see anything wrong with it. I'm having a and will probably do the same thing, or at least pierce her ears within the first few months.

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
Many times piercing are cultural and religious not just esthetic. Just something to think about before judging the "look"

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
I think it's cute but if we have a girl I wouldn't get hers pierced so young.
I still remember to this day going with my parents and sister to get my ears pierced, it was a huge deal so i'd want to do that with my kids too.

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
I had my ears pierced at around 3 months old. It was tradition with my mom's side of the family to pierce a girl's ears fairly quickly. Mine had to be pierced before my baptism.
If we have a girl, we will pierce her ears as soon as we can. I think little earings on baby girls are beautiful.

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
I don't have a problem w/ it -
Personally, I think it's betterin a way - They're too young to understand the pain or to be 'afraid' .........
I had mine done when I was in grade school, and my sister the same - Although it took us like, 6 trips to the mall b/c my sister wanted the earings SO badly, but was TERRIFIED to have that stupid gun shoot it in her ears !!

I wouldn't do it. I would let the child wait until they can make the decision themselves.

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
I got my ears pierced when I was 7 for my Communion. I don't think I would do it right away, I'd be afraid she might pull in them or get hurt. I'd wait a little bit.

Not a fan...Let the kid make their own decisions about their body. I think it depends on what you grew up with. ie if your parents pierced your ears when you were young or waited till you were older.

Oh and I missed the headband thread too but I am definately doing that from day one.. I actually have been lookig forward to it ever since I found out I was having a girl..

Re: Baby Ear Piercing
Both DH and I plan on doing it for Abby. We both love it. I have never in my life heard of a girl who was pizzed at her parents for piercing her ears unless they were done poorly which can happen at ANY age. At this age (just about 6 months), she won't know any different. I am not too concerned about the pain from piercing because she is too young to internalize just what is being done - its just one of those "damn that smarts and sucks" moments. She gets one shot in each leg every month and cries for maybe a minute. Frankly, I think a lot of people project their own fears onto their children when their children are more resilient than they think they are.

I got my ears pierced when I was 8 and am still traumatized from it. That is why I did my baby's when she was young

This got me thinking:
5 years old - first holes in my ears - happy as a pig in poop
14 years old - second holes in my ears - hurt like a mofo
18 years old - third hole in my ear (one side) more scared in anticipation than anything else.
29 and 34 years old - piercings elsewhere (since removed due to pregnancy as well as labor and BFing) - purely traumatized

i do have to agree... My mom waited until i was old enough to ask....and then we did it together - i believe she had hers pierced at the same time (she just never had it done).
who knows - you may not have a girl who likes that sort of stuff...or you may have a baby girl who tugs at her ears...
it's another one of those there's no right or wrong answer, it's whatever you prefer!
