Deciding on baby names and agreeing with dh
My dh and I decided on the name Luca if we have a boy. This isn't my first choice for a name but he wont budge and we dont have a backup name incase he doesnt look like a Luca. We find out on Friday what we are having and if it is a girl then we dont have a problem because we have two names picked out and depending on what she looks like will be her name (dh doesnt know that is my plan yet he thinks that name is set in stone also). So how did you guys handle the name issue?

This is a constant battle with us as well. DH will agree on a name and then a few days later disagree with it. Men

Re: Deciding on baby names and agreeing with dh
If its a boy we both agreed, Robert for first name after DHs father who passed away and middle name Nicholas for my brother who passed away. If its a girl, we have a problem there, DH wont budge he wants the name Priscilla and i want the name Ava, we find out in two weeks what we are having. Good Luck to you!

Re: Deciding on baby names and agreeing with dh
I mentioned to dh durning dinner to have a backup name for a boy and he thought i was crazy that he never heard of that and that people grow into their names. I dont agree with that at all. Why dont men understand?

I guess I'm lucky. We agreed that unless we both agree on a name, then it doesn't even get considered. Luckily, we both loved the same names and we have them picked out already.

Re: Deciding on baby names and agreeing with dh
My DH and I had a boys name picked out for my son no prob... it was the spelling he had the issue with.. lol.. I decided not to spell it traditionally. After Labor and delivery my DH agreed with everything I said LOL... (needless to say I got my non-traditional spelling)

Re: Deciding on baby names and agreeing with dh
we had a list of names that we liked for both sexes. In either we wanted to use a P in honor of my grandfather, so the only girl name we liked was Paige. Alyson just sounded good with it and our funky last name. I like the old fashioned and unique names.
Other names we had on our list were: Morgan Madeline Cassidy Camille
For a boy-he's stuck on naming him Ryne after his favorite baseball player nad I want to name him Paul for my grandfather. Let's see who wins that one!

DH has no interest whatsoever in picking names, but he has no problem shooting down all the names that I come up with I've finally come up with one girl and one boy name that he actually likes. But I still want to have a couple of backups in case I change my mind!

Re: Deciding on baby names and agreeing with dh
We aren't having this discussion as of yet because I'm not pregnant but my feeling is that the baby already gets DH's last name so I, as mom, should have more say in the baby's first name. Not to mention the fact that we, as women, are the one's who carry and deliver.

We are having the same issue. We are having another boy and for the life of us, we can't come up with a name we both like. Luckily I am only 21 weeks pg so I have some time to come up with a name we both like.

Re: Deciding on baby names and agreeing with dh
The only name we agree on is that which we are naming our daughter. I love Gianna, but it's too close to my name and hubby claims he'd be yelling Gina---Gianna all day LOL I also like Shaye and hubby said...I am not naming her after a stadium! I like Braden fro a boy....hubby wanted to know if I was giving birth to a soap star?? LOL MEN!!

Re: Deciding on baby names and agreeing with dh
The biggest problem I had was DH taking it seriously. He'd suggest all these wacky names that were athletes. Everytime they said some stupid name on Sports Center, he'd get this big grin and start saying what a good strong name it was.
To make him take it seriously, I came up with a list of names and we started from there. We agreed on Sarah's name right away, no debate, we both really liked how it sounded with our last name.
Boys were a little harder, I really liked Matthew, but DH didn't like it with our last name, he couldn't explain why he just didn't want it. There were a lot of names where we liked the formal name but not the nickname or vice versa. We ended up with a name we really like, and if it's a boy this time we'll use that.
I'm having a hard time picking a girl's name this time, last time was just so easy. Oh well...

LOL! My MIL worked in the NYC school system for 30 years, and she "suggested" some of her past students names:
Satisfier (a girl) Sh!thead (a boy, pronounced Shh-Todd)
and there was a little girl who insisted on being called Pumpkin Pooh Darling since her mom always called her that and she really thought that was her name!

Re: Deciding on baby names and agreeing with dh
We had no problems coming up with a couple good names to choose from for a girl, when we were TTC. But for some reason we struggled with boys' names. I liked Joshua but he hated it. He liked Xavier but then I hated it. FINALLY we came up with a name we both liked, and we're having a so it's a good thing we agree!

Re: Deciding on baby names and agreeing with dh
I made the big big big mistake of telling my husband he could name the baby before we knew the sex because I was convinced I was having a boy and I liked the name we had picked out so I thought I was safe. So, we're having a girl and he keeps reminding me that I told him he can name her. I like the name he has picked out (Devin Elizabeth), however, I really love the name Peyton Elizabeth and it looks like I have to make good on my word. UGH why did I open my mouth.

Well we don't have them picked out yet- we will wait until we see her, but we have agreed on most of the runner ups... Now we need to work on middle names...

Just remember, you will be this child's mother. If you aren't happy with the name, you'll never be happy with it. If DH isn't totally happy, in a month, it won't matter to him, and he'll call the baby whatever you decided on, and he'll be happy with it. I really believe that YOU have to love it.
When my brother was born, he was named after my father. His first name was Gerard. For several weeks, my mother tried to call him that. Finally, she told my father that the baby just wasn't a Gerard to her, and she just couldn't call him that. From that day on, we've called my brother by his middle name. When he was 18, he had it legally switched.
When you find the right name for your baby, it will just 'click'.
BTW - my DH and I also can't agree on any boys names. all he keeps coming up with are jerky names.

Re: Deciding on baby names and agreeing with dh
I have a great story on this.
When my sister got pregnant and started talking baby names, it of course got me and DH thinking about names. My sister and I both want to name our children after our dad. So my sister had a list of possible names and picked one when she saw her daughter. I told DH there was one name on the list I really loved and hoped she didn't pick the name (she didn't). DH didn't really like the name, but I kept using it and bringing it up as a possibility when we woudl talk about it.
I got pregnant a month after my sister had her daughter- and just found it I'm also having a girl. DH now tells me he really likes the name! I think that will be our little girl's name- but we are going to wait until she is born to pick out a name for her.
I think if you bring it up enough, and he starts to get used to it, he may begin to like it.

DH would never go for this idea, but I think it is a good idea. We still have time since I am only 20 weeks but I think I am going to borrow my SIL baby name book. She is having the same problem with her DH. She is being induced Dec. 8th and he still isnt sure about a name.
