Decorating My Family Room (w/pics)
This is our future family room. (pics are from right after we demo'd two rooms)
Looking into the room after you come down the stairs. (this is a Hi-Ranch) The two windows in the room. (they have white shades on them now) Looking back towards the entrance doorway. (the doorway will be wider when we are done.
These are my decorating ideas. What do you think? Dark, Med or light floors? Thinking of light furniture. Flat screen TV on the far wall when you walk in. We are doing Bamboo floors. I will probably just do white sheers on the windows to keep it bright. I'm going for a very classy beach theme in this room. The far wall when you walk in will be a slate blue and the rest of the walls will be beige. I'm thinking of cherry colored bamboo flooring. Below are pics of furniture ideas. The furthest area will be the TV area and the area closest will be a eating area and probably the computer. So what do you think? Love to hear any other ideas.
Wall colors and similar layout to my room. Love these looks Wall color idea Couches I like Pub Style Table I like Flooring colors I'm thinking about with the colors on the walls. Computer Desk I like Decor I like And today I just bought Mahogany colored bamboo poles, but I need to find a large floor vase for them now.

Re: Decorating My Family Room (w/pics)
i like the darker colored floor best. i love all the color choices. wouldn't look for anything else! i am not a fan of leather, though, but it's GREAT in someone else's house! (i liked the really light blue one, but don't know how that would work with the blue wall).

I love it
I have a dark leather sectional- and it's the perfect "hang out" couch- it doesn't show dirt
and it super comfy
where are those glass canisters from? my DH broke mine- and I can't find a good replacement- I like those alot

Re: Decorating My Family Room (w/pics)
I love the light look of the furniture & I think your color scheme is beautiful but I'd be worried it too light for everyday use, future kids. We have chocolate leather in our family room/basement & I'm glad we went dark because the kids have scuffed the leather & spilled things. As usual, your style is awesome!

Jen, I love the dark flooring best. Our living room/dining room are very similar colors
(Nutmeg & Polaris blue), I wish we would have gone w/ a darker floor.
I really like the pub table

The couch is the only thing I can't decide on 100%. Because we are thinking into the future with kids, so we might have to go a little darker with the couch.
The glass canisters - I usually keep all websites with my pics, but I can't seem to find this one. But I will look around for you. I know I saw something similar at BBB.
I found these sites with some glass canisters. HTH!

Maybe I will have to go with a darker beige/tan or light brown. Def thinking about the future and worried about spills. And thank you!

Re: Decorating My Family Room (w/pics)
i love dark wood floors but they are often hard to maintain.
in re: to the couch, i would opt for a beige/tan color with blue, ivory and striped throw pillows. you need to tie in the blue from the DR. i would use the same stripe fabric as chair pads in the DR.
dark rustiic wood or distressed ivory coffee and dr table.
sisal or jute rug area rug
sepia seaside themed art work.
apocathary jars filled with sand and shells.
how about this color scheme? tan/beige couch instead of white.
a striped fabric couch would work as well

Re: Decorating My Family Room (w/pics)
I think I really want the dark flooring. We have medium hardwood floors upstairs, so I would love something different downstairs.

Thank you for your comments. I do like the idea of the pillows and chair pads. I would have to see those kind of area rugs in the room before buying one probably and I love the idea of sepia seaside themed art work. I love sepia. And of course the Apocathary jars. Thanks!

forgot to mention that i would pair the white sheer window treatments with woven blinds.
decide on a color scheme and then search for the furniture and accessories. create a file (electronic or hard copy) and use when shopping.

The color scheme is going to be slate blue and beige/tan. I already have an electronic copy and will print when ready to shop. Thanks!

Re: Decorating My Family Room (w/pics)
Love both the slate nad navy blue. I already know what DH's gonna say!!!
The hardest part is picking a color that both of us like. I can't even decide if I want a dark room or a light room. The more example pictures I see, the more confused and unsure I get.

Re: Decorating My Family Room (w/pics)
I love the colors you picked out - it is going to look great!
I was at Marshalls 2 weeks ago and they had a number of those glass cannisters you posted a picture of. They were $9 each - I bought a large one. Michael's also carries them.
I can't wait to see finished pictures - the slate blue and beige look great together!
