dehydration
OK, so on Firday I started to not feel well. I was throwing up and had a slight fever. I called my doctor and he said there is a stomach virus going around. He said just to concentrate on getting fluids down and to take tylenol to reduce the fever.
Yesterday I could only drink two bottles of vitamin water the entire day and did not eat a thing.
Today I still cannot drink so the doctor suggested that I either get 40 oz of fluid down in the next two ounces or go to the hospital for an IV drip.
Has anyone had this experience? I am worried about going.

Re: dehydration
I didn't have this experience but you really really need to try and hydrate yourself!!! It's better if you can drink the water yourself so you don't have to go to the hospital!!! Feel better soon!

Re: dehydration
Back in January, I got ended up in the hospital because I was sick and I was incredibly dehydrated. I had to get the IV drip. Try your best to get it down on your own though, because a trip to the hospital is never any fun.

Re: dehydration
try things that have water in them, ice pops, watermelon, cantaloupe, a salad (lettuce, peppers, cucumbers are at least 90% water)

Re: dehydration
I was dehydrated in the beginning of my pregnancy. Being that I'm having twins my morning sickness seemed to be doubled! My other suggestion to you is to try Gatorade, pedialyte (either the drinks or ice pops), ginger ale. What you do is try to take a sip every 10 minutes. Hopefully it will stay down. I know that your probably thirsty like I was but for your sake take LITTLE sips!!
Now if it leads to going to the ER to get hydrated. See if he has any pull at the ER so that you are taken in pretty quickly. Or try to find a quiet hospital ER (if one exists near you) I was in the waiting room for 5 hours when I went in.
Best of Luck!! Hope you feel better soon!

Re: dehydration
Thanks so much for the responses. I had a lot of water, about 64 ounces to be exact and then I decided to eat a little bit. I thought egg whites on a roll would be good. But nope, I threw up 4 times, mostly liquid. I got so nervous again so I just went by the ER to see what they would say. At first I was going to get the IV, but decided against it. The nurse was very nice and told me that I could try to hydrate myself again, but not to drink so much so fast and also try other things besides water. So here I am sipping on vitamin water. The nurse said that I did not look dehydrated. Let's hope this awful stomach virus passes soon!

Re: dehydration
if you're still throwing up, try to follow the BRAT diet. Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, Tea/Toast.
I ate 2 pieces of white toast when I threw up and it stayed down.
