Re: Results of Cat, Rusty's Blood Test
How far along is it? I had a cat with kidney failure and we made his last two years comfortable by giving fluids twice a week. My sister was a vet tech and she would administer the fluids twice a week. Just throwing this option out there.

Re: Results of Cat, Rusty's Blood Test
I'm so sorry for you and your family. I know how hard it is. 2 1/2 years ago the same thing happened with my cat - kidney failure.
At first, the doctor wanted us to consider putting him down. But then, after she spent the day with him, she gave us the option of IV fluids. She said he wasn't ready to go. You could tell by the look in his eyes that he wasn't ready. So, for 3 months I gave him IV fluids but then, one morning, I woke up and knew it was time. I won't get into details now but, you'll know when it's right.
I don't wish what you're going through right now on anyone.

Re: Update!!! Glimmer of HOPE!!!!!!
My cats are on royal canin urinary so now. Prescription food and we haven't had any UTI issues since. We looked into many of the diff brands of food and you're right. Science diet was one of the worst ones! Basically a good cat food will not have any byproducts. Or if hey do, they should be way at the bottom of the ingredients list. Hope kitty feels better!!!

Re: Update!!! Glimmer of HOPE!!!!!!
I'm so glad Rusty is doing better and eating! By the way, my husband's name is Rusty.
We feed our dogs something with high protein which is not good in their later years for the same reason - it can cause kidney problems. When they get to about 6 or 7 years old, we're going to switch to a different formula but same brand, Evo.
I know what the vet is talking about, there's an ingredient in pet foot that came from China that was poisoning dogs. It's on the FDA website.
You should do a google search for "cat food reviews" and see if you can find good info on what Rusty should be fed now. I know there's one for dog food that's good and maybe you could start with the cat counterparts - dogfoodreviews.com.
I hope Rusty continues to improve!
