Delivery charge and tipping
If you get food delivered and they charge a delivery fee do you still tip, do you tip the same or do you tip less? I'm noticing that a lot of places are now charging delivery fees so I'm just wondering what people are doing?

Re: Delivery charge and tipping
After yesterdays post I have to say it is absolutely disgusting that anyone would think not to tip someone or think ..."well if he walks, I will pay him less". But I hope it comes back to those who dont tip or tip cr@p. Its just SO wrong on so many levels. How unappreciated could you make someone feel. I mean we all know that the man that walks 2 blocks to deliver is making 100k a yr, right?
Now back to your question..."most" delivery charges that I have seen have been 1.00 charges. I could NEVER give someone 1.00 for a bag full of lunchs. This is EXACTLY why so many places have to include their tips bc some people like yesterdays co worker are CHEAP. Could you imagine having to charge 1.00 for a delivery bc you "might" get nothing.

Re: Delivery charge and tipping
I must have missed that post yesterday. I agree with you that $1 is not a fair tip and I would not tip someone less because they walked. Actually all of the places I'm seeing are charging at least $2, which can get very costly. I always tip a lot to begin with. I don't mess around with people who bring me my food. I always give the pizza guy at least $4 no matter how big our order is, meaning even if we only order a pie I still give him $4. Obviously when we place huge orders I give him a lot more. And he always gets us our food fast and while it's still hot.
I am more inclined to not round it to the next dollar if there is a delivery charge.

Re: Delivery charge and tipping
i don't think i would give them a smaller tip but i would love to know if the delivery people got a cut of the delivery fee - b/c that might make a difference.

Re: Delivery charge and tipping
there's a pizza place i order from that charges $3 for one pizza as a delivery charge! so i tip less. i'm not giving $8 total on a $10 pie. if i was ordering a huge amount and still paid a $3 delivery charge, obviously i would tip more.

Re: Delivery charge and tipping
I am in pharmaceutical sales, and I have lunches delivered to the offices I call on several times a week.
I ALWAYS ask a new vendor if there is a charge and if that covers the drivers tip for delivery.
Most of my vendors tell me that I should not tip their drivers, it's included in my price.
If it's included, I do not tip because I have been told that the driver is taken care of. If it isn't included, I make sure its added to my bill ahead of time because many times the food is delivered to the office before I get there.
I agree with an previous post, that if you are not going to tip for delivery due to a delivery charge, you should find out where that charge is going.

Re: Delivery charge and tipping
with my business, we charge a $5 delivery fee if the order is under a certain amount and thats only to cover gas costs. my delivery driver doesnt get a part of that fee. with the rising cost of gas, a delivery fee has become a necessary evil.
