Demo tomorrow

At a school in the Bronx, high school Social Studies

How exciting! Show how you interact with kids, your care/concern, high expectations... This is your opportunity to really sell yourself in the classroom. Good Luck! You'll do great!

Congratulations!!

I work for the DOE also.... from my experience they really like a lot of hands on for students. Try to have your lesson scaffolded- ie you teach something, then they do it as a class, then they do it independently/small group/partner. then review as class

My school is also really big on different style learning- centers always impress my admin- I do this but it can be a lot of work.... 1 center have them working on vocabulary, another center short answers, another reading comprehension, another on the computer, another picture identification. (or whatever fits into what you are teaching) have them switch groups every five minutes or so and then review answers or have them finish whatever they didn't for homework.

I am sure whatever you have planned is going to be great! They asked you to come in for a demo for a reason... they see something in you!!

The BIG focus this year is on Questioning and the levels of questioning.....Having students working on creating questions about material they have just read, or answering leveled questions about what they have just read.

In addition, any lesson that can be applicable to "real" life is also a focus this year.

Thanks so much.

It went fine. It didn't get that "hit it out of the park" vibe that I got at the last and only other demo that I did years ago (for a leave replacement, which I got.)

There are clearly a lot of discipline problems and the position is open because the current teacher is leaving for other pursuits.

Hopefully I hear some good news soon.
