Dental Cleaning
Hello ladies,
My wife who is 23 wks pregnant will be going in for a dental cleaning tomorrow. She usually has a topical numbing agent for her cleanings and I wanted to be sure that this is safe. She has sensitive gums and especially now that she is pregnant. Our OB said it was okay, but I'd like a 2nd opinion. If any dental work is needed, is novocaine a no-no? Again, our OB said it was fine, but I've heard other contrary opinions on this. Is there a pregnancy safe novocaine? Is it suppose to be epinephrine free? Of course, I'm hoping that there will be no need for this and if so that the dentist has it. Thanks everyone!

Re: Dental Cleaning
My dentist needed a note from my OB saying it was okay for me to get the cleaning. I'm almost positive the letter said no epinephrine. They said x-rays were okay as long as I was double protected, but my dentists were against it, which was fine with me. I wish I still had a copy of the letter. I was also a bit earlier, 16 weeks, when I had my cleaning.

Re: Dental Cleaning
I JUST came from the dentist a few days ago. I am 4 weeks pregnant..I had a cleaning with a topical anesthetic but they refused to remove my wisdom tooth because of the use of novacaine. So, if your wife is just have a cleaning then its fine to use a topical anesthetic.

Re: Dental Cleaning
My dentist used a type of novicaine that didn't have an ingredient in it (forget which one) that is safe for PG women.
