Dental implant..need help

Hi, so I had a tooth pulled and a bone graft put in by a periodontist. Now, I have to get the implant put in and the dentist informs me that the implant and tooth will cost another $3500. I was floored. The graft already cost $1150. I thought that was the cost of everything. In total this will cost about $4600. I am wondering if they are trying to hose me. I do not have dental insurance. Is this price normal? Also, do I have to see a periodontist? Can I see a regular dentist or oral surgeon?

I dont think they are hosing you so to speak, but you definitely shouldve been given fees up front, it wasnt in an initial treatment plan work up?
I am an office manager for an oral surgeon and we do tons of implant cases, I will give you an idea of what our fees would be for that procedure...

surgical extraction 375
bone graft single site 500
implant 1500

That is for the surgical portion only and doesnt include any x-rays or sedation if required. Implant crowns, which is something your general dentist would do, could run from 1500-2000 from what i've heard. If you have any questions fm and i'd be happy to try to help!

Thank you for responding. Ok, so it looks like my dentist is $200-250 more expensive per procedure. That's a lot when you add it all up. My dentist is a periodontist. Does it matter if you use a perio or oral surgeon?

I had an implant many years ago. Insurance would not cover it since it was considered cosmetic. I paid out of pocket for it and it was somewhere between $3K and $3500. No bone grafts for me.
