Dental Question

Let me start by saying that I have an appointment at 1. But I have a tooth that has cracked and I'm sure needs a root canal. But about 2 weeks age I developed, for lack of a better word, a pimple, in the floor of my jaw almost below it. I'm thinking this must be an infection/abscess, but when I check on the internet it seems it could be more serious. Guess am just looking for a little reassurance. Anyone have any experience with anything like this??

Re: Dental Question

I got the same thing when I cracked my tooth. the dentist told me it was because the area was irritated and it went away after I had the tooth fixed.

I was given some antibotics to help the swelling

Re: Dental Question

you might on your way already but the pimple you got is a fistula, its a track with a drain for the fluid(infection) to get out. The tooth will need a root canal & a crown. In some cases if its cracked below the bone it may have to be extracted.
Good luck!

Same exact thing happened to me.
It's an abscess- it's infected.
I had to go on anti biotics to clear it up and I had to have the tooth pulled.
But don't freak out- you might just need a root canal.
In my case the tooth was cracked vertically- into the root - and it couldn't be saved.
The abscess was caused by the "pulp" of the tooth being exposed and getting infected.
Good luck!

Re: Dental Question

Thanks for asking. It went pretty well, turns out no root canal, but she cleaned out the tooth and fitted it for a crown. The little pimple like substance looks like a clogged salivary gland which she tells me is common, and she will just watch. I go back in a few weeks to put the crown on and then for a deep cleaning. Not looking forward to that.

Glad to hear your root canal wasn't to bad.
