Derek has an cuticle infection. Has this happened to anyone else's newborn?

Derek has an cuticle infection. Has this happened to anyone else's newborn?
I noticed yesterday the tip of his finger was red but didnt see anything. I just gave him a bath and noticed the tip of his finger was very red and a little swollen (we had company all day so i didnt hold him much so I never noticed it earlier). When I looked closer the side of his nail had a puss bubble. I put bacitracin on it with a bandaid until I call the ped. tomorrow. I was afraid to clean it with alcohol or peroxide b/c I am afraid it would sting him. He didnt like me touching it b/c it was obviously sore.
Has this happened to anyone else's infant? I know baby's have a low immune system so I am afraid it will get really infected

I know Mommyagain had posted once that her DD seemed to have infected ingrown nails....search her posts or try FMing her. Also...wash it often and maybe soak it in the bathtub (if you can use a bathtub yet). Def call the ped.
Watch with the bandaid (can DS suck his fingers?), re choking. Maybe even a sock over it...

I have on a onsie where they have the mits I can fold over his hand. He is sleeping now so I am going to try and soak it in warm salt water while I hold him. Dont know if he'll like it but i'll give it a try. I am going to call the ped. in the morning. I am sure it is not a big deal but I want to make sure he doesnt need a prescription cream.

This happened to my DS once too and I think to DD..I squeezed the pus out and and put neosporian on and it went away.
