Desperately need a good chew toy!

I have large lab who is an aggressive chewer. I can't seem to find a toy for him that lasts more than 5 min before it's little pieces I have to throw away. Raw hides last 20min if I'm lucky. The only thing that has lasted are the Nylabones for tough chewers, but he gets bored with them quickly since they're tough as a rock. I feel so bad for him. He has no toys and starts cheweing on my kitchen walls when he's bored. Help! Anyone find anything good?

Have you tried Kongs?

Some of them you can even put treats on the inside so they can stay busy trying to get the treat out...

I was going to say Kongs filled with peanut butter or cheese, or even the kong-type footballs with holes in it - you stuff the cheese in the holes. Works for Casey!

Misty destroys Kongs - the only thing that has lasted is a silver ball that I found in Target that was rated for high chewers. It has a hole in it to fill with that Kong stuffin, she chews that all the time and it's still hanging around.

Lacrosse balls? Interesting...

Kongs are no good for us. Besides the fact that he chews right through them, he does not sit and try to get the peanut butter out for more than 2min. We got one that you put treats in, but I swear he's so friggin smart, he can get everything out in under a minute. He has this whole strategy of picking up the congo and dropping it to dislodge pieces. Then he'll roll it around a couple times to see if anything pops out. Then he picks it up and drops it again and repeats the whole process.

The only thing he can't detroy in seconds are the compressed rawhides.

It takes him days to finish one.

They are awesome. A little more expensive, but worth it when you figure in the time spent.

We buy them in bulk!! Chat Icon

We've yet to find a "toy" he doesn't detroy. Even kongs. Chat Icon

Re: Desperately need a good chew toy!

I have a small marrow bone that I fill with cheese that will entertain gus for a while....

he loves to destroy though...so now, I buy the squeaky toys that he loves to rip apart at the dollar stores...and the higher priced stuff toys I buy him are at least things that will last a little while...he gets a new tire every month, the "tire biter"...it's a tire with a rope threw it..it's meant to be chewed, so it's durable and lasts awhile, but it has doggy dental floss in it, so while he chews it, it cleans his teeth.

also, chuck it makes sure durable tennis balls, for heavy chewers, I buy those for fetch....

marinedog.com has a line of chew toys that they guarantee for life, Gus has chewed thru one of thier bones 3 times, I keep mailing it back with the reciept and they send me a new one.

the only two kong items he hasn't chewed thru were the kong tennis ball, and the black kong that you fill with treats....

for the backyard, he has an indestructaball that he hasn't been able to break open yet, and a basketball that he plays with....

rawhide doesn't last unless it's compressed...I've surrended and now I just get the huge bags of 7 inch "healthy hide" from costco....he gets one every couple of days....

Re: Desperately need a good chew toy!

We have the same problem with Bama - he destroys just about every toy we get him in no time flat. He'll chew on it non-stop until it's destroyed.
We have a few toys for him like the big Nylabones, but he's not that interested in them because he can't destroy them.

The only things that take him more time to rip apart are the Tuff tennis balls - I think I got them from PetSmart. They're hard tennis balls. He also loves to chew on his deflated rubber soccer ball (he popped it after about 30 seconds!)

There are these huge rubber tire toys that have held up pretty good for us. PetSmart has them. Not too expensive either.
