DESPERATLY Seeking Prayers- Update-TRANSFER
I've been pretty quiet on the board since I started my first IVF cycle in early Sept. I kind of wanted to keep things to myself and I was a bit on edge.
Anyway... My retrieval was on Saturday. It went great...31 embies retrieved. I left sore and bloated but that has basically subsided now.
Monday AM report: 13 fertilized (great!)
Tuesday Afternoon report: 11 were growing/dividing at an excellent rate. 2 of the 11 were already compacting. RE said things were looking perfect. Transfer is a go for Thursday 2:15 (today).
TODAY: I get a call this morningl from the RE. I could hear in his voice that this wasn't good. Apparently ALL EMBROYS STOPPED growing!!! He couldn't believe the report and said he was heartsick for me. At this point they are going to wait one more day to just see if they are just slowing down and hopefully resume dividing/growing today/tonight and we can do a day 6 transfer. He did say that it doesn't look good though and that it appears that I am now dealing with poor equality issues. WHAT! My only issue was tubal factor and slightly of irregular cycles which I had since I started getting period. I have low FSH. I am 34. I know I'm not a spring chicken but Geez! I just don't know what to think. Since my ectopic in January I had one crushing blow after the next.
Needless to say I am DEVESTATED.
I have never asked for prayers before but if you could please just say a prayer that just TWO of these 11 eggs "wake up "and I can have my transfer.
ETA: Does anyone have any experience with this happening???
UPDATE: All of your prayers worked!!! Doc called this morning to say that THREE made it to blast AND it looks like a 4th might make it by this afternoon!! I have never been more grateful in my life!!! There was a 1% chance that even one would start growing again. I think my embies already take after me...they like to nap..lol I am going in for my transfer shortly. Please keep us in your prayers. I can't thank you enough for all of the well wishes and prayers you have been sending!!! Keep you posted :)
Update #2 Transfer: If anyone ever doubts the power of prayer they need to think again! I went in for the transfer around 12:30. Waited around a while (wow it's hard with a full bladder). The doctor came in and said "i have THREE of the most beautiful embryos to put in today AND it looks like by tonight we will have a couple to freeze." they wiil call me tomorrow and let me know if there are any to freeze. He said that these rare 6 day transfers tend to have some of the best PG rates bc it shows these embies are strong as bulls and that sometimes embryos start off real strong, stop and start up again. I can't believe our good fortune!!
I have so much to owe to God, my doctors and of course you wonderful, wonderful women!!! This is not the end of my journey. The next two weeks will be far from easy but I am keeping a very positive attitude and leaving the rest in God's hands.
I can't thank all of you enough for your prayers and support!!!
To all of us!!!!

Re: DESPERATLY Seeking Prayers
I hope this works out for you. There are mixed opinions on 3 day and 5 day transfers. Maybe your embies do better in the womb-if, and I hope this doesn't happen, it doesn't work out, I would push for a 3 day transfer next cycle.

Re: DESPERATLY Seeking Prayers
I am sorry for the upsetting news you got. I agree with a PP regarding a 3 vs. 5 day transfer. It seems like maybe a 3 day could be an option for you next time if this cycle is a bust. Also, I can't help but wonder if the lab had anything to do with this. Who is your RE? From what I understand the quality of the lab is very important for a successful cycle. Best of luck in the future!

Funny you say that bc DH is like"how could this happen over night?? 11 fertilized embies doing "excellent" and all of a sudden they stop???"
I am a patient at SIRM in Woodbury although the main facitily where ER and ET's are done in NYC. I know they have their own Embriologists on staff although I am not sure if that means anything.

Re: DESPERATLY Seeking Prayers
Wow...I"m sorry. I think that I would have a serious sit-down with your RE and discuss the why's of this happening. Could be the lab, but that's highly unlikely. It may well be a genetic issue and if so, you should be tested for everything.

Re: DESPERATLY Seeking Prayers
If this cycle is a bust, and I pray it isn't, you MUST get a second opinion. This is VERY strange.

Re: DESPERATLY Seeking Prayers
I am so sorry. I don't know enough about embryos to give you an informed answer, but I agree with Melissa in saying that maybe a Day 3 as opposed to Day 5 is the answer.
I just pray that these embryos make it.

Re: DESPERATLY Seeking Prayers
Thanks so much for all the support. The more and more I think about it I become convinced that something is just not right! Poor lab protocols, staff??? Perhaps I am wrong? Maybe you can be 34, with low FSH and produce a ton of follies and still have poor egg quality???
If things don't happen for us tomorrow. I am going to grill my doctor and also schedule consults with other RE's. Maybe I am over reacting but I just feel the need to have a plan.
Thanks again ladies...you are all so wondeful!!!

Re: DESPERATLY Seeking Prayers
Like melijane said this is why alot of REs dont do 5 day transfers, they believe the embryo does better in the womb then in the lab.
As someone who has had many failed 3 day transfers, I just wonder if thats so they can at least try. I always wondered if I waited till day 5 if they all would have arrested anyway.
There are several issues (genetic and immune) I believe that cause embryos to arrest on day 4.
