Desserts for diabetics
Any EASY recipes for homemade desserts that don't require a million steps or exotic hard to find ingredients and won't spike blood sugar?
No artificial sweeteners please!
Thank you!!!!
ETA: Sorry should have clarified, plant-based sweeteners are ok, just not artificial sweeteners like nutrisweet, etc.
and no refined flour, etc.
Thanks again!

Re: Desserts for diabetics
If you aren't willing to use even Stevia (which is plant based) I am not sure what you can make that would taste decent to be honest.
Bear in mind that even sugar free desserts can spike blood sugar if they are made with wheat flour or contain any kind of significant carbs.
My DH has a ton of desserts he makes with almond flour, etc- and they taste amazing even to me who doesn't eat that way- but he does have to use stevia or monkfruit to sweeten them or they would taste horrible.
I don't consider stevia and especially monk fruit artificial though as they are from the earth.

Desserts for diabetics
I don't have any homemade dessert suggestions, but when I had gestational diabetes, my go to sweets were: - 1 serving Haagen Dazs Chocolate Ice Cream with Almond Butter - 1 serving roasted almonds with a serving of dark chocolate
Both simple with no cooking, and they have fat and protein to help even out the sugar/carb content.

no idea. does fruit cause spikes in sugar too? i'm not sure if it is added sugar, or any sugar, or carbs that hurts diabetics. But... I was thinking fresh fruit and nuts?!?

Yes, Fruit spikes blood sugar. natural sugar or added sugar it's all the same effect on your blood sugar.
Less so for berries though.
Bananas are the worst. Blueberries are actually the best.

Re: Desserts for diabetics
Having going through gestational diabetes twice and now being a borderline Type 2 diabetic I can tell you that when it comes to any food, regardless of the type, it's going to affect each diabetic differently.
For me, as long as it wasn't first thing in the morning I did just fine with fruits. They didn't really spike my blood sugar at all so I relied on fruit A LOT for my sweet tooth. I'd make my own whipped cream which is super quick and easy to make and I would have a dollop of that on a fruit salad.
I also use Stevia/Truvia which is NOT an artificial sweetener, it's derived from real sugar. I never have a spike in blood sugar when I have it. They also make a "baking edition" of Truvia, just be sure to read the measurement advice on the bag before baking with it.
There are lots of great diabetic cookbooks, take a look online or at your local library for some other dessert ideas.

Re: Desserts for diabetics
check out pinterest for "Trim Healthy Mama" desserts. They are usually low on the glycemic index, use almond and nut flours which don't spike your sugar as much, and rely on stevia for sweeteners.

I can ask him for some recipes. He makes a lemon cheesecake that is to die for- and you wouldn't know it's low carb/no sugar
