Destination weddings. . .
Ok my girlfriend and her fiance are thinking about havinga destination wedding. If she should decide to. . . do most people pay for the bridal party to go, or is the bridal party expected to pay? I have no idea what the norm is and what to expect. Any insights?

It would be a nice gesture if the couple can afford it but I think the bridal party is responsible for their own travel & accomodations. In my mind it would be the same as if they lived out of town.

Re: Destination weddings. . .
I don't go on LIWEDDINGS.COM because I am not engaged. I figured this was a good place to go since alot of the married ladies go to this site.

Re: Destination weddings. . .
SIL had a destination wedding. IL's paid for two nights of everyone's stay. I don't think this is the norm though. As a BM, we all just wore whatever we wanted.
For bridal party-- I would probaly pay for a portion of their trip-- whatever it is.

My sister's getting married in the Dominican Republic in May. She has her 3 sisters, her future sister in law and her friend in the bridal party. Her fiance has his brother and 4 friends. Everyone is paying their own way.

Plenty of people ask wedding-attending advice here, feel free to ask away! No one has to respond if they don't want to.
I think it all depends on the bride and what she plans to do. Some have destination weddings to save money and so they probably won't pay for everything. A friend of mine who had one didn't pay for dresses for her bridal party, but she did pay for most of the dinners we all attended. I'm sure your friend will tell you before hand right?

Re: Destination weddings. . .
so she has to search the keyword destination wedding and bridal party and get hundreds of posts to search through when all she has to do is ask for advice on here where 90% are already married... If you dont want to read a wedding post, then dont open the thread.

ITA-- who cares... if she is a member here, then she should post here. Perhaps if she was a former LIW poster she would go on LIW, but-- I am guessing not.

I think every destination wedding is different. I think it is a nice gesture to pay for the bridal party but I wouldn't expect it

Re: Destination weddings. . .
I had a destination wedding and I didn't pay for anyone, bridal party included. It was a small intimate thing. Nobody was obligated. I feel that anyone who wants to be there will.

I don't think that it can't be suggested-- but the posts came off as, that this shouldn't be posted here at all. But, then again-- a poster's tone doesn't come through online.

Re: Destination weddings. . .
Usually, the bp is responsible for their own tickets and all that.
However, in some cases, the bride and groom do pay for the trip and hotel..although its rare because its quite expensive.

I agree & I also had a destination wedding in the Bahamas last year. We had 30 guests & everyone paid their own way. We paid for all of the "wedding" things like the reception, bridal party gifts & things like that but everyone else paid for their own travel accomodations
