I've known about the young girlfriends but it didn't really bother me. Maybe b/c my parents are 13.5 years apart and have been happily married for almost 40 years. My mom was 19 when they started dating.
He seemed to have stayed very good friends with his ex and he was with his current g/f for 7 years...it wasn't just a fling. Her family apparently adored him. By all accounts, he was a caring, generous, down to earth, "normal" guy.
eta: I can't even imagine what his g/f is going through 
Big difference between 19 and 16 IMO.You are an adult at 18 and still a minor at 16. Not sure California law but I would think it would be the same as here.

My aunt and my uncle have been married for 30 years and she was 17 when they met (he was 26). He was a teacher in a neighboring school district, but they met doing volunteer work. They had to date in secret until she turned 18, then he proposed. My husband is 15 years older than me (granted, we met when I was 24) but it doesn't bother me that much.

20 and 50 wouldn't bother me. 16 and 33 does. An adult should not be dating a 16 year old, IMO.

Just an FYI, 17 is the legal age for consent in NY, not 18...don't know about other states...but if she was a few months shy of 17 then I don't think it's THAT bad , though still gross.....although if it were my daughter, I'd think differently for sure!

Just an FYI, 17 is the legal age for consent in NY, not 18...don't know about other states...but if she was a few months shy of 17 then I don't think it's THAT bad , though still gross.....although if it were my daughter, I'd think differently for sure!
agree and it does not matter how long they stayed together-fact remains she was still only 16 when they started

Me too! Last time I checked that was illegal. People are on the sex offender list for doing the same thing. Very interesting, never knew this. Not that it matters now.
Sad situation.
16 is the age of consent in some states, I think.

lol yeah probably. I often wonder what would have happened if I met my husband when I was that age. When I was 16, he was 31. I am really glad we met when I was in my 20's!

I agree. In many parts of the world 16 is a marriageable age. If her family liked him, and they were in a committed relationship, I really don't see the problem.

I agree, and my feelings on this are separate from his death. Honestly, I think less of him after hearing his two last GFs were 16 when he started dating them. Im sorry, that is DISGUSTING!
If it was just a one time occurance, I would give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they met and he didn't realize her age. But when it happens twice, he just seems like a creepster.
I am 32 and the thought of dating a 16 year old boy is just gross. I know it is different for girls, cause they are more mature, but still. I turned 16 as a sophomore.... Worrying about SATs and prom, and he is a full grown man. Just seems gross.
I wish I didn't feel that way though, cause it was nice to think there was a real down to earth, nice guy in hollywood (who was also uber hot)
I agree with all of this. I'm so grossed out now. Honestly, even as a one time deal, a 32 year old dating a 16 year old? I don't care how 'mature' the 16 year old is, that is gross. To be a repeat offended, you have serious issues.
I'm also thinking the family was 'ok with it' probably had something to do with who he was and his $$$. I mean, come on, what family that cares about their child at all is going to be happy about their high school kid dating a grown man in his 30s???
