i hope they figure out why people were going in the wrong direction - the article said it happened twice in one day - something must have been confusing for those people to get on and start driving on the wrong side of the highway Chat Icon i hope they figure it out and fix it so there are no more accidents Chat Icon

Re: Devastating Story - Please say some prayers

i live in westchester and drive right by this area every week. There are alot of entrances and exit on the taconic that are very comfusing. They are sometimes in the same place. When i heard this on the news i got the chills.. my heart goes out to the family and to the family of the other cars. The other accident was 20 miles north and the guy driving was drunk... I really hope they can find out what happened so this does not ahppen again

I heard this on the news last night. They said that the driver that hit them was driving in the wrong direction. I cant even imagine the pain this family is going through right now...

When little kids are involved in something this tragic, the devistation is magnified 100x.

My thoughts & prayers go out to this family.

I think you have it reversed - the minivan was going the wrong direction. Her family said it is strange b/c she took the Taconic many times before and in an article it said that people were honking at her and flashing their headlights. Poor family - what a horrible tragedy.

I think so too, the woman with the 5 children in her car was going the wrong way...I didn't hear anything about a drunk driver...

Re: Devastating Story - Please say some prayers

This is terrible, just horrific.

Did they release the names of the children, the neices, that were in the car yet?

I wonder what went wrong. Supposedly she took that road many many times. Chat Icon Chat Icon

i heard the name on the news but i cannot remember what it is.

there is also a report (not sure if it's true) that she called her brother two hours before the crash to say she wasn't feeling well. he offered to meet her but for some reason she kept driving (obviously no one knows all the details yet).

the police also reported that she was driving for 1.7 miles before she crashed into the other cars. how unbelievably scary for everyone Chat Icon

Re: Devastating Story - Please say some prayers

This is just so awful Chat Icon Chat Icon my heart goes out to the families.

The taconic is such a dangerous road, maybe this tragedy with get the State to address the safety issues - like no shoulders, no traffic lights, narrow lanes, too high of a speed for the conditions and it is also very easy to get on going the wrong direction. The road was built as a scenic way and has turned into a major traffic vein. The design of the road does not meet the current uses.

This is just so heartbreaking Chat Icon Chat Icon

I went to elementary school and high school with Diane Hance (Schuler). She was hilarious and outgoing. She was well liked and was a good athlete. This is just such a tragedy.

There is a vigil tonight for the three Hance girls. Our Lady of Victory Church, Floral Park. 7pm.

They have started a foundation to help pay for the funerals and start a scholorship in the girls names. PM me if you want info. If anyone is going to the prayer service the info will be given out there.

The prayer service was devastating - yet it was gratifying to see such an enormous showing of support for the Hance family. There were photos of the beautiful little girls and there were hundreds of people there- they filled up the downstairs church and had to pipe in the rosary, novena and mass to them. Not a dry eye in the place - what an unspeakable tragedy.

Deirdre I agree the prayer service was so sad. But always amazing to see how the people of Floral Park turn out to support their friends and neighbors.

I am not looking forward to the days ahead. The wake will be tomorrow at Daltons in Floral Park and the funeral mass is Thurs morning at 9:00 (I think) I will update when I hear.

FYI the wake/funeral will be for all 5 together.

I cry when i think about it. One family has to bury 3 of their kids. How do you go on. May they find that strength.

Is it a private wake? Any updates on the son? I couldn't even sleep last night. At least the reporters went away a bit.
