[Devastating update 9/29] Can I share? And humbly ask for your prayers

A friend I've known for more than 15 years is in the ICU. The details are sketchy but it appears that he had a heart attack and was without oxygen for an unknown length of time. He may or may not have lost brain function.

I'm asking if you believe in the power of prayer, to pray for Chris "Ferret" Natoli. If you don't believe in prayer, please send good positive thoughts his way.

He is a husband and father, a FDNY Paramedic, a volunteer for our ambulance corps since we were kids, and just an all around wonderful person and friend.

[UPDATE THU 9/8]

Thank you again to everyone who has sent Ferret your good thoughts and healing prayers!

I received some solid information last night. He is still in CCU but when you speak to him, his heartrate quickens noticeably, which I am taking as an AMAZING sign. They are doing a 24 hour EEG (brain scan) which will end this afternoon, and then the family will know more.

Please keep those healing thoughts and prayers coming, it's all we can do right now but so important.

And thank you so much. I don't think I've ever had need to post such a thread in the past and it's so comforting to know so many have him in their thoughts.



[Non-medical update 9/9]

I went up to see him last night. He looks normal, except for a bit of swelling and all the tubes of course. No new news on his condition, but it was great to be there and touch his arm.

The crowds are amazing. Thankfully the ICU has a large hallway and waiting area. There's a little family room that can't hold even a 1/4 of the people who came. When people on different work shifts get off, they come to the hospital. Lots of agencies represented.

Saw Timmy (Chris' brother) and he's taking it day by day just like Chris' wife Paula, they're exhausted but hopeful.



Update 9/29

Chris lost his fight. He is being waked at Dalton funeral home in Levittown on Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm.

I'm heartbroken but want to thank everyone again for your thoughts and prayers.

Silly and loving. He has the kind of personality where everyone who meets him, loves him.

Ferret and I 14 years ago



He was a teen when he joined the corps and we hazed him pretty bad but he stuck with us and became a part of our family. We started calling him Ferret Boy because someone thought he looked like a Ferret. It stuck all these years, and I haven't called him by his first name since.

Just wanted you to know who you're praying for, and say thanks. It means a lot to me.
