DH and I disagree on DS' First Bday!
Before DS was born we agreed that DS' first bday would be just family (10-15 people) because (as DH says) DS won't remember it and it's a waste of money.. He has seen his friends give their kids First BDay parties that are big and over the top and he sees it as being only for the parents.
Now.....our neice (DH's brother's DD) wil be one in January and my SIL told me last night that her BDay party will be at a Knight of Columbus. That leads me to believe it's more than just family (b/c THAT just family is 20).
I told DH about it and he said "Now that's a smart idea" So I say "Why don't we have DS' BDay party at the K of C" He said "No, we agreed family only"
How can I get him to reconsider???? I dont' want like 100 people, but I want more than family, b/c I have friends who have kids that are at/around DS age....
TIA!!!

Re: DH and I disagree on DS' First Bday!
Babies don't remember anything and everything you do with/for your baby is really a memory for them to look back on in pictures, stories, etc. I don't have any advice really other than maybe come to a happy medium (50 people?) but just thought I would add that bit. I see so many people say their babies won't remember things, but I think to myself...but *I* will and I will be able to share that memory with them when they are older

Re: DH and I disagree on DS' First Bday!
If I had a small family I would in a heart beat just do that! let me tell you, we are having DD's 1st bday at a KOC, the one in Oceanside and for now 100 adults ( got more rsvps) and 25 kids we are paying close to 4500.00, KOC's are not cheap. then with the dj and twinkletown add another 955.00.
then add for tips, invitations, favors, cp's, and extra addons like balloons it is $$$$$$$$$.
soooo for the amount of family you mentioned I agree with your DH.

Re: DH and I disagree on DS' First Bday!
We are having DS's 1st b-day at a hall b/c I have a large family who I would have to invite. His b-day is in April and the weather won't be nice enough to have it outside and it would be too many people in my house. I tried to cut down our list but still wound up with a large number. If I had a small family like my DH does I would have it at the house. It's really an added expense that you don't need.

Re: DH and I disagree on DS' First Bday!
I am having immediatley family only at the house. We have some friends with children, but, it get too out of hand. DS's Christening we had about 80 people (give or take a few)...It was OK because it was in our backyard. DS is a Jan. Baby. I would be so afraid of putting all this money down, inviting all these people and then bam..We get today's weather and cancellations. We were supposed to go to a party today (OOS) and it was cancelled. I mean, when he gets older, we will do the Chuck E. Cheese, The bowling party...Local places. But, for now, inviting another 80 people again..Right after the holidays..No Can Do.
Sorry this is so long. I agree with your DH though.

Re: DH and I disagree on DS' First Bday!
i would stick with family and close friends... i had it at my home, and even though my son will not remember it, i can honestly say he enjoyed it. he loves company and playing with others (he's my first) so he's not used to having playmates. i invited close friends and ones who had small children. it wasn't too expensive, we catered some food and bought decorations from the dollar store. favor bags were for the older kids and it was just candy (my son's b-day was around halloween anyway)
good luck and hope you come to a happy medium =)

I wouldnt worry about having a party at a time of the weather. My DD's christening was April 15th when we had that wicked storm that left jersey and PA flooded and here on the island flooding and heavy rain- out of the 100+ invited only 8 didnt make it. so I wouldnt worry about putting all this money down in january. there are a ton of weddings in those months too. If people want to come they will show up.
