Dh and semen analysis
Hello Ladies.
Right now, I'm still coping with the fact that we may have some real issues, so I'm incognito until I can cope.
The first thing my ob/gyn wants is for Dh to go do a SA. It's been a few weeks now and he is making excuses for not doing it. On top of all of this, he suffers from erectile dysfunction, so having to perform "on demand" will more than likely be an issue.
How did you get DH through this? I feel so alone right now. He doesn't want to discuss his ED, and now having to do a SA he's needing to face the fact that we're having some fertility issues.
How did your DH cope when you realized that getting pg would be a challenge to you both.

Re: Dh and semen analysis
First, sorry you are going through this.
While my DH didn't stall or refuse, he has been vocal about not liking this process or having to move on.
A lot of times it was just DH not understanding the process or reasons behind things. I made him come with me to a couple doctor appointments so he could hear it from an expert. Then he would understand better and not think it was me overreacting or jumping the gun.
It also helped when I explained to him what I had to go through versus what he would have to do for an SA and that tended to open his eyes.
Not sure there is an easy answer to this, but hope this helps a little.

Re: Dh and semen analysis
Does your clinic allow your husband to do the Deed at home? Usually, if so, it has to be taken to the clinic within the hour. (i think) Maybe, he will be more willing to do it this way.

Re: Dh and semen analysis
I'm not sure this approach will work for all but when my dr suggested SA for DH, I went home and described in vivid detail all that I'd been through already with the gyn and all that was facing me assuming the SA came back ok.
While he wasn't thrilled about the SA or hearing all the gory details, I think it put it into perspective for him and he made all the arrangements himself.
Good luck!

Re: Dh and semen analysis
My dh gave me a hard time about it at first, he already fathered a daughter so he thought he was fine.
I was lucky enough that one of his friends had just gotten pregnant with a RE and the husband had to do a SA and talked him into it.

Yeah.. could he do it at home. Maybe when he is by himself. It might be less stressful for him to do it that way.

Re: Dh and semen analysis
My Dh had to do it numerous times because I changed doctors 6x's and each time they wanted their own sample. Plus all the IUI's and IVF's we did.
I felt no sympathy for him...think of all the crap us LADIES endure. I remind him once even a little complaining comes out of his mouth! lol
I hope things work out~Good Luck with everything!

Re: Dh and semen analysis
Yes, he can do it at home, thank goodness, but like I said, with the ED he just can't "arrive" on command, especially if he's being "forced" to provide a sample.
On other hand, yes, I just had to have a sono done internally. I'm sure he'd prefer to "arrive" in a cup rather than have a a sono of his insides like I had to do today with the tech poking and proding my hoo haa's insides.

Re: Dh and semen analysis
If you are doing it at home, make you sure you have some time off. Unlike me, at the time, I had to get to work and we were waiting for his sample. DH also had probs "on demand" lol.....sounds like HBO on demand. I was late to work.

Re: Dh and semen analysis
hmmm...this is a hard one. Ya know his ED might be a causing him some problems that are leading to the infertility. Has he been treated by a urologist for that? Sperm can die off if they arent released often enough. Its a simple thing like that that could cause getting PG issues.
The biggest issue is ego obviously and its tough to figure out a way to get it done without making him feel less a man. I feel sorry for ya both
we were trying about 10-12 months when DH had his. Now he has done it, no joke about 15-18 or so times.
HE had 3 SA's and we have 13 iuis and some IUIS were two days in a row.
I think he actually likes it. But he doesnt have much of a problem doing it on demand so I guess thats not helpful to you.
I wish I had more advice, but only you know him best. You have to stroke his ego and let him know this is important to you and you will work together to make it as painless as possible.
IF he didnt have the ED I would say other things b/c to me they get off EASY ( literally ) with all this.
Dh complained ONE time to me about it, to which I told him I was about to have a catheter stuck up my Va jay jay and really didnt want to hear how hard it would be to watch some porn and pleasure himself in the name of having a baby and he never opened his mouth again.
