Re: DH does not want to take a Lamaz classes

We took one and I really didnt think it was a waste at all. Even DH (who is so skeptical) admitted he learned some things.

I strongly suggest taking it.

We just couldn't find a time to do it....we may rent a DVD. If not, it isn't the end of the world

same with us - I just never quite got it together to arrange it.

Are you planning on delivering drug free? If so, I'd recommend you taking the class. If you're planning on having an epidural, then I dont think it's as necessary.

Re: DH does not want to take a Lamaz classes

I was my best friends coach during her pregnancy w/ twins 2 yr's ago and we loved lamaz.

We learned a lot all thou some people feel it's a complete waste of time. I think it depends who the teacher is.

We will be attending a class for DH. I think it helps them be more involved but in all honesty, you don't "need" it.

If he won't go, not even for you and you are not into it all that much don't sweat it.

Re: DH does not want to take a Lamaz classes

Our childbirth class, we did a little breathing techniques and how to push. He felt silly but he got really into it, and was def a real help during labor.

Sometimes since you are in so much pain you "forget" what to do, DH was there to remind me.

Also if you don't learn the proper way to push, you will look like you did 10 rounds in a boxing match in your face.

If you don't want to take lamaze, for a 1st time parents, i would def take some kind of childbirth class or DVD.

We signed up, went to 2 classes and thought it was a waste and never went back to the last 2 classes.

We took a class for our first pregnancy. He didn't think it was a waste -- I think he learned a lot and he was a great coach during labor.

Re: DH does not want to take a Lamaz classes

The bigger question to me is...Do YOU want to go?

If you want to and he's refusing I think you need to have a talk about being in this thing together.

If you are unsure, then it's not that big of a deal.

Re: DH does not want to take a Lamaz classes

We originally were going to skip it & then at an early pregnancy class the teacher/nurse was telling us how it is so much more than breathing & its learning to relax & also bonds you & your partner...we both decided why not at that point...

Re: DH does not want to take a Lamaz classes

I am doing a weekend thing with DH. Its easier for both of our schedules. See if you can get a weekend child brithing class that goes over everything.

I dont want to take Lamaze classes though i hear it is a waste of time and money.

But if you really want to then you should.

exactly!! i got the impression you wanted to take it and he was calling the shots!

you want to make sure you feel as comfortable as possible and if that means preparing through books, dvds, classes, whatever, i would hope your dh would be there with you.

It may be a big waste of money or a big deal to him, but you are the one who is going to be pushing a baby out of a newly expanded 10cm hole. Labor can be a scary thing, particularly if you don't know what to expect.

If you feel comfortable with the knowledge you have, than I would say skip it. If not, I think a talk is in order - and honestly, if you want to go, he should do it for you.

As painful as it was for DH to sit through the Bradley classes & as much as he b1tched about it, he said he found it extremely helpful - and we didn't finish taking the classes.

If you do schedule it, I would do a 1 day class versus the expanded one for his sake & your own sanity.

Re: DH does not want to take a Lamaz classes

We both had mixed feelings about taking the class. Plus, finding the time was too difficult. We ended up having a friend of mine who is a doula coming over for a private session.

In due time. No pun intended.

Re: DH does not want to take a Lamaz classes

There are many decisions you make together in a marriage but this one is not your DH's decision to make. If he won't go, consider someone else to take the class and then be in delivery with you. If he's just bitching about it that is fine, but the ultimate decision should be yours.

Re: DH does not want to take a Lamaz classes

DH wasnt really into it, too much of a commitment to go each week, etc.
I had a woman come to my house and do a private class for us. It was almost the same price and it was over in 3 1/2 hours and she gave us lots of free formula.
Feel free to FM me for more info or if anyone else wants the infoChat Icon

Didn't take one last time, not taking it this time. In all honesty, even the free hospital tour was a slight waste of my time and energy. I merely wanted to know visiting policies, floor number[s] and where to go when I arrived.
