Re: Dh hit a deer!
should I report it first, or go to the collision place first?
The deer ran off and Dh was shaken up. It was in NJ last night.

Re: Dh hit a deer!
yes, and the deer ran off. That must have been some deer.
DH is taking it to the collission place this morning and then we will call Geico.
Yeah, I need this. Hey, it's just a car...there are more important things to worry about.
Like shopping for a new one today!!

Re: Dh hit a deer!
Yikes. That is one of my biggest fears about driving where I live.
Someone I worked with was driving minding her own business when a big truck hit a deer while traveling in the opposite direction and the deer flew the air and came crashing in thru her sunroof! Thankfully it landed in her passenger seat where there was no passenger.

Re: Dh hit a deer!
That particular accident actually falls under your comprehensive coverage. So, that is the deductable you will have to pay - not your collision. Call Geico and report the claim and they will help you out with what to do next.
So sorry! That really stinks!

Re: Dh hit a deer!
Got it sorted out. The car is at the collision place and Geico is involved. There was fur and blood on the car. The whole front was shmushed.
I can't believe the airbag didn't deploy.
Thankfully, DH is fine. got a rental car.

Deer often do run off, even injured. They get like a rush of adrenaline and run off and die in the woods. The police around here will sometimes go into the woods to find the injured deer and put them out of their misery.
When DH hit a deer, he brought to the collision place first then called Allstate just after we left it. Although I think your insurance co will always say to call them first.
good luck!

Re: Dh hit a deer!
I have no advice, but I'm sorry to hear this I have heard that hitting a dear can do a real number to your car. Definately call your insurance company if you haven't already.

Re: Dh hit a deer!
My DH hit a deer a few weeks ago and did $5900 worth of damage to my car Call the insurance company, put a claim in and they will send an adjustor out to look at it.. the body shop can't do anything until the insurance adjustor looks at it.

Re: Dh hit a deer!
The same thing happened to my DH 2 weeks ago. He was in a rental car though. He called Avis right away. They made him get a police report so he had to wait half an hour on the side of the highway in the middle of Illinois. Ugh!!
I'm glad everything worked out for you. I was sorta grateful it was a rental so we didn't lose our car while it was getting fixed.

Re: Dh hit a deer!
i'm curious - do you live in an area that is heavily populated with deer? i have a friend who lives upstate and she actually has a device on her car that can detect if a deer comes within a certain distance near her car - at that point, a very loud alarm (outside the car) will sound that is supposed to scare the dear away from the vehicle. i thought that was pretty cool actually - they say it works well. i wonder what something like that costs.

Re: Dh hit a deer!
we live in Bethpage. DH was in New Jersey when it happened. He called me at 1am and told me he hit a deer. I was out cold and said wha???
I said, are you ok and can you get home and he said yes. I said ok we'll look at it tomorrow. He said I think there's $1000 worth of damage. At the time I though there may be mre but we won't know until they can take the car apart on Monday and then the adjuster comes out to tell them what they will pay for.
I'm sure it will work out. We got a Jeep Liberty for a rental..pretty cool.
