DH Just Administered My First Gonal F w/ Menopur Shot

Ok, so we just got done, what an ordeal!!! One injection class doesn't prepare you for this. I think there should be at least two classes. We were so nervous. We analyzed and analyzed some more. We got to a point after mixing Gonal F and setting it aside where we weren't sure if we were using the right needle to inject once Menopur was mixed as well. We looked over our notes but were doubting ourselves so we decided to call the IVF Nurse Coordinator Gail at East Coast. I figured what the heck...they leave her number if we have a problem after hours and there was no way we were going to mess this up so I called and she answered. She was OK...could have been nicer...but did explain it to us.

Have some of you called in the # after office hours if you were stuck in a rut?

Anyway, the first needle is done and I just hope done correctly! Let's hope not many side effects kick in now. My DH is amazing..I am so thankful. What patience!

OK let me tell you this... I don't think a thousand classes could have prepared me to be able to stick myself!! I work with needles in a hospital all day and I still freaked out. But now on day 6 of stims it only takes a minute. I know it's scary, but you did it and it will only get easier!! I haven't had to call after hours yet, but I'm not done. I'm sure they get a ton of phone calls so don't feel bad. She is getting paid to be on call!!

I only had to call once after hours....but Gail was nice to me, sometimes she can be a little on edge when it gets very busy in there.
You did the hardest part, and that was the doing the first one.....it only gets easier from here. the nore you do it, it will be a piece of cake, I have mixed those things while peeing and brushing my teeth

Its very difficult to stick yourself with a needle, but after a while you'll get used to it.

And don't let them being edgy deter you from calling if you need to. Tha's why they make the big bucks. I've had to call a few times to my nurse, sometimes they'd leave me the wrong instructions or not tell me to do something and I needed to double check. I think I called twice. You gotta do what you gotta do!

Congrats!! It does get a lot easier- almost second nature. when i was @ work i would run in the bathroom @ the appropriate time & it was over. In regards to Gail she always seems on edge!! I try to avoid her. After my m/c in Sept. I called her when i got home and asked her about my Rhogam and her reply "why didn't you tell someone?" I was like come again you- nurse-- me--patient having rvcd anesthesia, not thinking straight! Sorry so long!! in short call her when you need her that's her job!
