Diaper Rash and Bath question
The last two nights DS has been a crazy man - when we put him down he flips out so we have to take turns holding him (this happens at night when we get home from daycare). When I go to give him a bath he flips out and screams the entire time. Breaks my heart because bathtime has always been our time. He is not sleeping at all at daycare.
I think that we need to figure something else out for DS but in order to do that I need to eliminate some ideas...I do think that he is overtired when he gets home so we need to get him to sleep earlier. I give him a bath every night and can go every other if we need to during the week but I really love that time together and it used to really help him go to sleep.
I noticed last night that he had a small rash on his back side and legs. The daycare was out of diapers and used a huggie one (we use pampers). I also noticed the size 2 is looking too small so I moved him into the Pampers Cruisers size 3 and gave daycare a supply. I also lathered him in A&D (after he was dry) and acquaphor.
Now....sorry so long....my question is...does the bath irritate the diaper rash?

Re: Diaper Rash and Bath question
I find that the bath usually helps clear up a diaper rash...If one of my DC has a rash, I bathe them, and then apply vaseline to the diaper area...I try to stay away from diaper rash creams, b/c vaseline works great at keeping the moisture away from the skin.

Re: Diaper Rash and Bath question
I don't think the bath would irritate the rash. As long as you dry the hiney, which it sounds like you did.
I would suggest that you leave him alone for a few minutes to play or something, this way he can "regroup" and calm down without the extra stimulation. But, you said that you can't even put him down so I don't know if that would work.
It sounds to me like he is waaayyy over tired. Can you just give him a bath every other night? And, do it as soon as you get home. this way he can go right to sleep. Trust me, I know it stinks that you don't get to spend much time with him. But it's important that he get his sleep.

Re: Diaper Rash and Bath question
I dont think bath irritates it either. I am also a big fan of vaseline for diaper rashes. I would put the diaper rash cream on when there was a rash, then put the vaseline on top of that.
make sure his bottom is dry though before you put anything on, creams and stuff can trap moisture on the skin making the rash worse.
My dd always got a rash from huggies, we use pampers too

Re: Diaper Rash and Bath question
Thanks everyone. I agree - I think he is overtired. I am going to either going to give him the bath earlier or every other night until he can handle the every night routine again.

Re: Diaper Rash and Bath question
When DD had some diaper rash I found that the warm water sometimes bothered it - maybe try putting a cool cloth on it - then letting him dry completely before putting on the ointment and the new diaper.

Re: Diaper Rash and Bath question
Poor little guy!
As far as the rash itself, I've found that A&D doesn't do much. It might help prevent it, but it doesn't treat it very well. Butt Paste and Triple Paste are both AWESOME! I can lather up her butt with it and her rash is gone the next morning.
