I had a feeling it was around for longer than they thought. Trust me, that shit was going around schools, unchecked, long before they shut them down. All that maskless contact...all the gym classes, recess on the playground and lunch in the cafeteria. We probably didn't know about it because the symptoms were mistaken for something else in most kids.
Exactly, I feel so bad because my one kid was coughing well into Jan. Who knows how many people it was spread to. We were told it was asthma (after he had pneumonia). Obviously he stayed home when he was sick, but after he finished the antibiotics and a couple weeks went by, they said there was no way he was contagious and just use the inhaler to stop the cough. My other kid barely got sick, just had a cough. He didn't miss any school. That cough lasted a long time. So many people around us were sick around the same time as we were, but no one tested positive for the flu.
I'm curious how your doctor can definitively diagnose COVID though. Couldn't it be possible that they recently had COVID and were asymptomatic.
We had a bad sickness that went through our household to back in January and have had the thought that we may have already been exposed.
They did a ton of testing at the time, to find out the cause of the pneumonia. Everything came back negative. I guess certain bacteria and viruses (like RSV) are usually the cause. They weren't able to determine the cause though. We also had a loss of taste and smell. At the last appointment, the doctor said he didn't even need the antibody test to prove we had it. I insisted on the test anyway. I just wanted to know.
