Re: Did anyone become pregnant using IVF and if so...
We got pregnant with DS on our first IVF cycle, we had 11 embryos frozen (I hyperstimulated so we got a LOT of eggs). We started ttc #2 and it took a total of 6 embryos to get pregnant with my current pregnancy. We have 5 embryos left and I'm not sure what will happen down the road. Right now I feel done and I can't imagine going through the IF treatments again, but I also don't know how I'll feel in a few years so we will keep them and decide later.
If you absolutely don't want to have extra embryos to have to make decisions about, talk to your RE about doing a low stim cycle where you will only produce a few eggs. Just keep in mind it may take a few cycles so if you're paying out of pocket it can add up quickly.

Thank you for answering. it will be out of pocket expense, and if we are lucky enough to conceive, we would most certainly be one and done, hence my dilemma. Others have suggested donating the embryos, but i do not feel comfortable with that - I mean those would be my blood children "out there" essentially, right?

You could try an unmedicated cycle. Look into New Hope...I know you said one and done, but you do realize that IVF increases the rate of multiples, not only by implanting multiple embies, but also the actual scientific process makes embryos more likely to split.....
I was a self pay also and we implanted 2 and had twins. I had 3 more fertilized embies but they arrested before day 5 so I didnt have to make that choice. If we had had some we would have stored them indefinitely I guess since my DH is pretty much done.

Re: Did anyone become pregnant using IVF and if so...
We did IVF & I got pregnant on my first cycle with twins but unfortunately lost 1. That cycle ended up with 6 embryos & we implanted 2. I have 4 left & since we became pregnant on our own with #2, we are currently in the process of getting the paperwork in order to discard our stored eggs.
Like you, we were self pay & the storage fee ($830) a year is really something that we don't want to continue paying considering we did have our second on our own & are most likely done. It took me awhile to come to terms with discarding the embryos we have but at the same time, I can't justify paying $830 a year for something we will never use.
