I'm in Lindenhurst and haven't heard a thing, but after checking the weather on weather.com, there is a snow squall and thunder....hope this helps

DH friend who was driving when talking to DH said he saw a flash of light in the sky maybe I hope this was lightning/thunder it was just odd

My parents in KP just said the same thing when I was on the phone with my mom. She said they had lightening too, so I assume it was thunder.

Heard it, but didn't think anything of it. My husband and I assumed it was our furnace kicking in, albeit rather loudly. It wasn't until I read this post that I just put it together.

Newsday reported a snow squall:
A snow squall was approaching northern Brookhaven at 45 mph Tuesday night, a system that could reduce visibility to less than half a mile, the National Weather Service said.
The squall, spotted about 9:45 p.m. over Northport, was expected to hit Port Jefferson Station, Middle Island and Nesconset shortly after 10 p.m., the Upton-based service said.
It should reach Calverton and East Moriches area by 10:20 p.m., meteorologist said.
A few rumbles of thunder may also occur, the service said.
A snow squall brings a sudden snowfall that can be moderate to heavy, usually accompanied by gusty winds.

we heard it faint in Ridge! we muted the tv and was like wtf was that!
I felt it in Ridge too, it was like a vibration almost.

We saw it and heard it in w islip. At first I thought DH was seeing things. Then there was a flash if light. Muted TV and heard thunder. Checked weather, no talk of storm. Was a bit freaky but wasn't as bad here apparently.

It was definitely lightning. We saw the lightning and then heard the thunder a few seconds later.

This is very weird because I live in NJ and follow the NJ weather postings etc..and people down in South Jersey heard something like that yesterday too and no one knew what it was.

I don't believe the snow squall theory. Usually there is snow with that!  We had no snow and no clouds. My whole house shook. We all think it was a low flyng plane... had to be. People from northport to rocky point all felt it... would sno squall in Npt make Rocky Point shake?
